Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor: One of the most common subjects sub-jects for discussion wherever politicos gather is whether Rep. David King will seek election to the Senate, or will seek re-election to the House of Representatives. Representa-tives. Congressman King has stated informally, but rather widely, that he will seek the Senate seat. However, he has taken no action which would irrevocably commit com-mit him to either course. There is a widespread hope sxpressed among Democratic party leaders and party workers that Congressman King will seek the House seat. Those expressing this desire generally fall into three categories. First, of course, are those who are supporting Calvin L. Hampton, Hamp-ton, Salt Lake attorney, for the Senate nomination and would like to see Congressman King sliminate himself as a primary contestant. Secondly, there are those who are committed to support Congressman Con-gressman King whatever his decision de-cision may be, but feel that his best interests lie in seeking the House seat. They reason that he .vould have no opposition for the Democratic nomination for the House and would be an odds-on Tavorite in the general election whereas, if he seeks the Senate seat, he would be faced with a primary campaign which he may r may not win, and even if he should win would then be faced vvith an election campaign in which his chances would be less ;avorable than they would be in the House race. The third group of persons expressing a desire that Mr. King run for the House, and this group is very widespread are not active supporters oi either Rampton or King. They believe that either Rampton or King would run about equally as well against Bennett. On the other hand they reason that M King runs for the House, ths Second Congressional District seat can almost surely be saved for the Democrats. There are also those who are uring King to seek the Senate seat at all costs. One thing is certain, if Congressman Con-gressman King seeks the Senate seat, the Democratic Party will probably witness one of the most hard fought and closest party campaigns which the Party has had in years.
