Show Municipal Election Draws Near But Candidates Are Far Away A municipal election is only some three months away. But thus far no candidates for offices being filled in that election elec-tion have come forward. Veteran observers could offer no explanation for the reluctance reluc-tance of candidates to announce. Although there was no official announcements by Friday there was considerable speculation that several well known city figures woudl declare soon. It is assumed that incumbents in the three offices to be filled will be on the ballot in November. Novem-ber. They are City Commissioners Joe L. Christensen and Conrad B. Harrison. Also expected to seek reelection is City Auditor L. E. Holley. For Commissioner Christensen and Auditor Holley the election m will be old hat. But for Commissioner Commis-sioner Harrison it will be his first try at winning office at the polls. He was appointed to the city commission to fill a vacancy. va-cancy. Formerly he was a Salt Lake newspaperman. When opposition to these three develops it is expected to come from James L.' Barker, former Salt Lake City attorney, who is now engaged in private practice; Ralph Anderson, veteran municipal muni-cipal official, or, some observers say, Jennings Phillips, Salt Lake public relations man and closely identified with Mayor J. Bracken Lee. Others who are being talked about as possibilities are former Police Chief W. Cleon Skousen, now busily working for rightist organizations as a speech maker, and Clarence D. Williams, veteran vet-eran Salt Lake newsman. |
