Show Utah Guard Names Art Essay Winners Three promising young Utah artists have won a boost toward college careers from the Utah National Guard. Three high school seniors were awarded $100 scholarships for their winning entries in a state wide high school art contest. They are Linda Kay Swensen of Weber High school, first place; Crag Moore, Highland high, second sec-ond place; and Kay Watson of Highland high, third place. More than 40 other students from a number of Utah high schools received trophies and certificates denoting the place their entries won. The competition was sponsored jointly by Granite high school and the Utah National Guard, which donated the scholarship and trophies. Brigadier General Alma G. Winn, chairman, presented pre-sented the awards. This marks the entry of the Guard into another area of endeavor en-deavor in its broad program of service to Utah's youth. Gen. Rich, Utah's adjutant general, said the contest is intended in-tended to bring out talent, foster interest in the finer things, and keep the spark of interest alive whlie students continue their education. ed-ucation. General Winn said the -Utah National Guard hopes to expand the program in the future, recognizing recog-nizing and fostering worthy work in all areas of the fine arts. This year's contest drew many fine entries in four divisions painting, graphic arts, sculpture, and advertising art.
