Show University Opens Observance Of Annual Law Day Friday An "Institute on Law and Religion Re-ligion in the United States" will feature the annual Law Day of the University of Utah's College of Law Friday, April 29. The institute will begin at 10 a.m. and will" include a noon luncheon, 2 p.m. session and 7 p.m. dinner in the West Ballroom Ball-room of the U. of U. Union, according ac-cording to A. Pratt Kesler, president presi-dent of the Utah State Bar, co-sponsor co-sponsor of the event with the College of Law. Visiting speaker will be Jerre S. Williams, professor of law at the University of Texas Law School. His primary professional concerns have been in the areas of constitutional law and labor law. In 1955 he made a notable contribution to the ultimate improvement im-provement of federal loyalty programs as associate director of a study of Loyalty-Security programs, pro-grams, sponsored by the Bar Association As-sociation of the City of New York. Mr. Williams will speak at the dinner. Robert A. Calvert, president presi-dent of the Student Bar Assn; of the College of Law will be toast- master. The 10 a.m. session will consider con-sider "Religion and the American Ameri-can Democratic Ideal." Speaker will be Dr. Sterling M. McMur-rin, McMur-rin, professor of philosophy and dean of the College of Letters and Science at the U. of U. San-ford San-ford H. Kadish, U. of U. professor of law, and Dr. J. D. Williams, U. of U. professor of political science, will be commentators. The luncheon speaker will be Richard L. Dewsnup, member of the Utah Bar. His topic will be, "Mormon Influence on Early Utah Law." "Separation of Church and State the Secular State as an American Ideal" will be the subject sub-ject of the afternoon session. Mr. Kadish will again serve as moderator. mod-erator. Speakers will be Dr. . Sydney W. Angleman, U. of U. ! professor English, associate dean ; of the College of Letters and Science Sci-ence and director of general education; edu-cation; Peter W. Billings, Utah Bar member; the Rev. Lawrence Sweeny, chaplain of the Catholic Newman Club, and John Boyden, , Utah Bar member. |
