Barker, city attorney, at the request re-quest of the city commission. Since 1951 the city's audit has been prepared by Albert E. Es-candon Es-candon under a cbntractural arrangement ar-rangement with the. city. State law requests that an audit be made every year by an independent indepen-dent auditor. Business and labor leaders this week decided a multiplicity of public appeals for charities, welfare wel-fare and health funds are burdensome, bur-densome, confusing, and giving rise to resentment in a sizeable proportion of the giving public. The officials met at the offices of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce to study the matter. mat-ter. The Utah State Boardof Examiners Exam-iners this week considered a proposal pro-posal that Utah's Constitution or Utah's laws be changed to permit per-mit split sessions of the Legislature. Legis-lature. Under the proposal the Legislature woudl meet for 40 days to introduce bills. It would then take a recess of several weeks and return for 20 days to consider the bills. The discussion within the board came to no conclusion. con-clusion. The Utah State Industrial Commission this week declared plans to raise the minimum wage for women and minors to $1 per hour. The increase, in two steps, probably will be made within tne next lb montns, according to Otto A. Wiesley, commission chairman. Earmarking of a large share of revenue from Salt Lake City's projected sales tax for capital improvement was proposed this week by Mayor Adiel Stewart. The 1959 issue of Utah fish and game licenses are being sent to some 500 license agents this week. Department of fish and game spokesmen said that they should be in the hands of all agents by the weekend. Utah's fish and game license period begins April 16 each year and ends on April 15 the year following. The department noted this means that only the 1958 issue may be used through April 15, and only the 1959 issue beginning begin-ning April 16. License agents are located in nearly every community of the state. About $1 billion will be spent this year to buy raw materials and services to provide the Bell System telephone equipment and machinery. The money will go to some 33,000 suppliersmostly suppliersmost-ly small business with fewer than 500 employees.
