Show De Soto Cella I, Famed Idea Car, To Be Shown Here The famed De Soto Cella I, the idea car of the future which predicts pre-dicts that cars could be driven by four high speed electric motors mo-tors receiving their energy from a totally new source of power, will be on display August 13-24 at Freed Motor Co., DeSoto dealership, deal-ership, 47 East Second St. The revolutionary "gas-less" idea car, first introduced at the Chicago Auto Show in January, is a 3-8 scale model which explores ex-plores "styling ideas and advanced ad-vanced engineering concepts that might be realized within the next generation." As conceived by DeSoto engi- j ne'ers, the DeSoto Cella I would be powered by a revolutionary eltctrochemical system. I Stylists have also envisioned many new safety and conveni-; j ence features which could be in-, corporated into the De Soto Cel- la I. A. E. Kimberly, Chrysler engineer, en-gineer, called the propulsion idea "a radical departure from previously explored engineering j concepts, such as the gas turbine ' engine, the free piston and solar energy engines or advanced research re-search in the area of present-day reciprocating engines. "In this engineering concept, we have discarded the time honored hon-ored piston engine in favor of the chemical interaction of hydrogen and oxygen gases as the primary source of automotive power." The idea car's name "Cella," is derived from the Latin and refers to a power source "contained "con-tained in a cell." In the DeSoto engineering concept the hydrogen hydro-gen and oxygen gases would be fed into the cell with the resulting result-ing chemical interaction being converted directly into electrical energy.
