Show Guard Will Screen Officer Candidates Enlisted men of the Utah National Na-tional Guard interested in being be-ing commissioned officers by way of the Guard's Officer Candidate Can-didate School will pass before screening boards throughout the State during the next two weeks, according to Maj. Gen. Maxwell E. Rich, Utah Adjutant General. Guardsmen meeting standards and requirements of the screening screen-ing boards will be further studied stud-ied in early April by the Utah National Guard Academic Board. For those qualifying 30 men will be selected to attend the 1959-60 Officer Candidate School at Camp W. G. Williams, Gen. Rich, continued. In addition the board will select se-lect ten alternates to fill vacancies vacan-cies which might occur in the group of 30 candidates. Of those entering OCS, about 25 are expected ex-pected to successfully complete the course and receive commissions commis-sions as second lieutenants in the Utah Army National Guard. Graduation ceremonies will be held in late June, 1960. General Rich said the new class of cadets will be required to attend two weeks of school during each summer encampment encamp-ment of 1959 and 1960 in addition addi-tion to six week-end drills at Camp Williams during the thirteen thir-teen month period. Previously OCS classes were required to attend only three week-end drills in addition to the four weeks during two summer encampments. |
