Show Page Two ' FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 1, 1959 THE SALT LAKE TIMES Utah Medical Profession Pledges $804,872 For U. of U. Center opportunity to join with leaders in the campaign in saying well done to those who supported this vital health project." In submitting his report, Dr. Castleton had special praise for the four year alumni of the Col-lege of Medicine. He cited the Class of 1957 which pledged $46,180, the Class of 1958 which pledged $33,620 and the Class of 1955 which pledged $27,260 for particularly outstanding achieve-ment in the campaign. He also praised the two-yea- r alumni for pledging a total of $35,490. The medical profession this week demonstrated its leader-ship position in the public cam-paign for funds with which to construct the University of Utah Medical Center by announcing it had gone over its goal in pledg-ing nearly one million dollars to the Medical Center Fund. Dr. Kenneth B. Castleton, Salt Lake City, Division Ghairman, announced in a special report the medical and nursing professions had pledged $804,872 to the Med-ical Center Fund. Goal of the Medical Division was $800,000. ' In announcing completion of the medical division's role in the fund raising program, Dr. Castle-ton said, "It is with particular pride that I am able to announce the medical division has raised more than $800,000 toward con-struction costs of the new Uni-versity of Utah Medical Center. "By their actions physicians, nurses, technicians and students have demonstrated their aware-ness of the need for this Medical Center. The goal of the Medical Division has been a high one but the challenge was met. The ob-jective has been reached and even exceeded. This was done largely through the hard work and cooperation of a number of outstanding men and women and through the gifts of nearly 2,000 individuals. I wish to thank everyone connected with our our division for their support. It has, indeed, been a job well done." The Medical Center Campaign has an overall goal of $4,010,000. This money and $6 million in state and federal funds will be use; to construct a Medical Cen-ter on the University of Utah campus. Leland B. Flint, general chair-man of the campaign, said, "The overwhelming support by the medical and nursing professions should stand as an example for the rest of the Intermountain community. The fact that doc-tors, nurses and technicians have pledged nearly one million dol-lars speaks -- eloquently of the need for this Medical Center. "On behalf of all the volunteer workers in this campaign, I want to thank those members of the medical and nursing professions who have given so generously of their time and money to reach this goal." Dr. U. R. Bryner, president, Utah State Medical Association, said, "Members of the medical profession can look with pride upon their role in securing the new Medical Center. Attainment of the established goal for the profession is a remarkable ac-complishment.
