Show Utah Turkey Show Opens in S. L. Dec. 1 1 The pains and gains of Utah's $25,000,000 turkey industry will be carefully examined December Decem-ber 11 and 12 during the 12th annual Utah Turkey Show at Utah Motor Lodge. Some 250 Beehive State turkey grows will air problems facing ihe industry that ranks Utah in .he top ten turkey producing states in the nation, and first in sxport. John S. Morgan, chairman of the Utah Turkey Marketing Board and president of the Utah Turkey Federation, said ninety per cent of Utah's 42 million-pound million-pound turkey crop goes to other states, Europe, Canada, South America and Mexico. Nationally known turkey authorities au-thorities will address the convention con-vention sessions. In addition, some 100 youthful Utah Future Farmers and 4-Hers will compete com-pete for $1400 in prizes and top money in the annual champion turkey auction. Mr. Morgan said the auction, a colorful and lively live-ly highlight of the two day show will be televised by KUTV. Last year 15 year old Bruce Anderson of Tremonton collected collect-ed $1075 for his champion Tom. The 26 pound bird sold for $41 a pound, believed to be the best price ever paid for a single turkey in America. Mr. Morgan said convention sessions will be devoted to election elec-tion of new UTF officers, panel discussions, sales promotion and reports and progress of scientific turkey research. The Saturday night awards banquet, where junior and special spe-cial awards will be presented, irops the curtain on the annual affair, Mr. Morgan said.
