Show Highway Heroism Wins Acclaim for Utah Truck Driver Two line drivers for Ringsby Truck Lines, Inc., have been nominated for a coveted "Driver of the Year" award presented annually by American Trucking Associations. Harvey S. Summarell of 1109 Empire Ave., Park City, and James E. Hil, 15342 Badajoz St., Los Angeles, were credited by Taylor with saving the lives of three California motorists in a pair of spectacular accidents last May. Taylor described the Summarell Sum-marell incident as follows: As dawn was breaking across a lonely stretch of highway near Vallejo, Calif., Summarell came upon an apparently unoccpuied sedan parked on the shoulder, an inferno of flame and dense smoke. Braking his rig to a stop Summarell leaped out and approached ap-proached the blazing car with a fire gun. Oblivious to licking flames, red hot metal and the danger of an imminent explosion, Summarell Sum-marell forced open a door, to find the driver sprawled on the " floor. Quickly he hauled the limp form clear of danger and extinguished the blaze. When help arrived Summarell helped load the still unconscious Cnan in the ambulance. "His jbrae? Unknown. The car's registration reg-istration papers went up in the fire." 'Whoever he was, he undoubtedly undoubt-edly owes his life to Harvey Summarell's quick thinking and total disregad for his own safety, Taylor added. |
