Show The Continental Sale. The Continental hotel was the scene of unusual activity this morning. As early as 8 o clock women began to congregate in the hallways, men thronged the office and the immense dining-room was tilled to the doors. 1 hey had all been drawn hither bv the announcement an-nouncement that the entire furniture and fixtures of the place would be sold at auction today. By 10 o'clock some 700 people had gathered within its walls to listen to the sil-vry-tongucd speech of Auctioneer Barrett, who was doing the honors in behalf of Messrs. Jennings & Caine. The furniture, carpets, stoves, ranges, fixtures, etc., have been appraised at $20,000. Many of the furnishings are as good as new, having been but very little used. The eagerness of the people to get these goods .Ta8.e.T,T.ccd hj tl,e spirited manner in which the bidding was done. Chairs were sold at $2 per dozen that had been used but two months and would retail for $3 each in any I furniture house in town. Crockery and glassware went like whirlwind at ridiculously ridicu-lously low prices. The enthusiasm was immense, im-mense, and judging from the rapidity with which things moved along today, it is safe to say that the entire contents of the Continental Conti-nental will be sold out by Tuesday night. |
