His plural wife was held in the sum of $200. Lorenzo Johnson, a young man residing in Preston, came to Logan for treatment for a diseased foot. About two years ago he was working at a sawmill and had the calf of the leg torn oif. the cut commencing at the under side of the knee joint. A short time since the foot became diseased, and at the time of hi visit to the doctor the big toe was literally dead. The doctor amputated the toe yesterday morning, the young man witnessing the operation, as, the nerves being be-ing dead, it gave him no pain. Captain W. II. Smith, former superintendent superinten-dent of the Bullion-Beck mine, has been visiting La Plata. It is understood that his visit has some connection with the prospective pros-pective litigation with the railway company, and that the captain will be required to testify before the land office in Salt Lake as to the character of the land in dispute, the gentleman being a raining expert. The board of trustees of the Agricultural college will have a meeting on Friday night. Mr. A. Rieff of Salt Lake City has been awarded the contract to erect the wing of the building that is to be built this year; his bond has been approved and the work will be commenced immediately. The regular reg-ular college board is going ahead with the work, trusting to the supreme court of the territory for a decision in its faror, as against the usele.-a and illegal board appointed ap-pointed by the legislature. We have mentioned in a former letter about Carl Grotegut's wife having eloped and taking the child with her.
