Show IN CENTRAL UTAH. In the political news columns of to- day's Times there is a veracious chroni- cle of the triumphant march of Repub- licanjsm in central Utah, particularly Miliard county. A year ago the Democrats carried Utah by a large majority. They did so only because the people had had no education ed-ucation in political thought and no opportunity op-portunity to discuss national issues. Last year's election was utterly devoid of significance. This year things are different. The .: u: .1: ic uidiiLo ui iaiwca ait? ueiug uisijusscu in every town and settlement, on every farm and iu every mine. Under the stimulus of the great national election the people are rapidly assimilating political po-litical ideas, and the votes they cast this fall will mean something. It is impossible to believe that when the difference between Republicanism and Democracy is fairly stated to a people who have everything to gain from the protection of their infant industries, a majority will vote to expose us to the hazards of free trade and the dangers of a radioal ohange in our whole economic system. The Republicans expect lo carry Utah thii fall. They expect the territory terri-tory will be permanently Republican. They think so because every other state with similar resources and aspirations, excepting those in the South, has always al-ways stood by the Republican party and prospered in consequence. |
