Show Funeral Services Held Wednesday For William Hill Hili Funeral services for William Villiam John Hill lull 85 of Bountiful who died Sunday of pneumonia at the home of his son Lyman Hill fill after a weeks illness were held at the ll tabernacle Wednesday afternoon under tinder the direction of Bishop Amby Briggs The speakers were vere Parley P. A Brough I Know That My Redeemer Lives Joseph Wood WoodA WoodA A 1 Perfect Day He was born Dec 27 1834 1 son of John and Lucy Gibbons Hill in Forester Dean Eng Eng- England England land He was baptized in Little Dean England in 1863 His father worked in a coal mine and he start start- started cd ed to work with him at the age of eight and continued until he was 13 He had tP t open and close the doors in the mine as the horses pass passed passed ed cd through The rhe mine was very deep he thought 1000 yards At the age of 60 his father met with an accident dying two weeks later October 1867 In I n the spring of 1868 his mother I his sister Louisa and himself emi emi- granted to Utah Sailed on the ship Emerald Isle which left Liver Liver- Liverpool pool p l. l June 18 1868 carrying about a out 1000 passengers 40 of ot whom died and were thrown over board I There was much much-i sickness on the boa due to bad drinking water and I Iother other privations After an eight weeks voyage landed in New ew York the latter part of August 1868 Traveled by train from New NewYork NewYork NewYork York to Omaha Neb where they transferred to the covered wagon drawn by oxen or mules Exper Exper- Experienced Experienced many hardships crossing the plains and quite a number died ar ar- arriving arriving ar- ar arriving riving in Salt Lake City the latter part of September 1868 Vent Went to the old office where the Hotel 1 Utah now stands Spent the winter in Brigham Bri ham City with his mothers mother's sister Next spring went S Sto to Little Cottonwood the same year movi moving g to Bountiful where wh e he lie lived up tip to the time of his death The fiut two or three years rears Tie worked on farms In about 1872 Charles Hayes came carne to Bountiful and started a brickyard brickyard- on the lot owned by Mrs John Naylor now belonging to Dr Trowbridge For several years year Mr Hill worked for him later ater the two men started a yard rard on the lot owned by James Hayes These gentlemen made mate the rick brick brick for many houses in the he coon coun- ty y and in Salt Lake City and after this his he made brick with different men for many years A call was made for volunteers to o work vork on the St St. George temple the he winter of 5 1874 and in the spring when he lie returned he resumed resumed resumed ed brick making for about another twelve years He married Charlotte Emily Hoi Hal brook June 27 1878 in the thi old En En- Endowment house holtse in Salt Lake City being eing b married by Daniel H. H Wells Ve II s. s Mrs Hill died eleven years ago on the he of last February Of the nine children born to them five survive John V. W.
