The work of completing the improvements In the Walker Bro's block is progressing and the old Union bank corner will soon be a credit to the city. The asphalt will be completed on State street to Third South tomorrow night. The thoroughfare is rapidly becoming one of the finest in the city. The new street signs are being placed in position and are a decided improvement over the old order of things when a person must needs inquire his way. Hall, whose wife died last November, No-vember, has jug sustained another affliction . in the death of his 8-month's old baby. The little one passed away last night. One of Galleazzi's dog chasers created a furore on Second South street this morning by his desperate but unavailing efforts to capture a stray dog. The canine was onto that wire noose, and the way he dodged it and scooted was a caution. About 200 people peo-ple gathered to watch the fun, and it was plain to see that their sympathies were not with the dog chaser. City Physician Meacham says that the statements made in the papers to the effect that a prisoner named Brown, whose arm was in a frightful condition, had been neglected ne-glected are entirely witeout foundation. The man received medical attention the day he was arrested; the arm was not a mass of putrid flesh, nor was there at any time danger dan-ger of his losing it. Dr. Meacham further says that the prisoner received the same attention at-tention that any of his own patients would, and he had no cause whatever for com- plaint. Proprietor J. If. Clark, of the Morgan hotel, had a birthday yesterday, and a number num-ber of his friends and employes conspired to made him remember the event. The victim was unveigled into "entering the dinino-room dinino-room when C. E. Thomas, on behalf of the rest of the conspirators presented him with a gold headed cane and a neat little speech befitting the occasion. Mr. Clark recovered from the shock sufficiently to make a fitting reply, and the rest of the evening was devoted to good cheer and merriment. The occasion will be long remembered by those who participated in it. -A - |
