Arthur Brown the lawyer and leader of the divisionisl republicans of Zion yesterday afternoon brought suit against the ZWftUlM and for alleged deformation asks damages in the sum of S'J&.OOO. The action rises from the ashes of the recent city election and the publication of charges lodged by Patrick Ilegney who informed in-formed the THbtme reporter that he had been "warned out of town" by Mr. Brows who has, as judge of the election in the Fourth precinct been made respondent in a number of suits for damages. The attorney at once appealed to the district dis-trict court and tiled an action for libel. The article in queition is reproduced in the coin, plaint, which further sets up that the defendant de-fendant did charge Ihe plaintiff with corruptly cor-ruptly and illegally rejecting tlm vote of Patrick Ilegney, and with corruptly and illegally refusing to permit Patrick Ilegney, knowing him to be a duly iualilled voter, to vote, because the said voter proposed to vote the liberal ticket, while Ihe plaintiff was acting as such judge of election, and that he corruptly and wilfully refused to permit the said Ilegney to vote; and thai phiintilL, while acting as' such Judge at said election, unlawfully bulldozed and prevented pre-vented Patrick Hcgney, a legal voter, from voting, and also thereby charged the plaintiff plain-tiff with attempting, by unlawful and improper im-proper means,, menaces and threats, to drive said Patrick Ilegney out and away from Salt Lake City for t'he impropeV and illegal purpose of preventing the said Pal rick Ilegney from prosecuting the plaintiff for improperly and illegally depriving him of his vote at said election, and to save himself him-self from liability therefrom ; that the libel and publication, and each and every charge therein, and each and every Inueudo and Insinuation In-sinuation therein, is false and malicious, and is defamatory of said plaintiff I that platntlg has been greatly injured, etc.; wherefore lie demands 'judgment in the sum of !."..IKHI.
