Show SI ATKH(IOI) HILLS. 'flip hparings which have been given the four territories, all of which want itatebood, has been oomplotedj by the lmii.se anil senate QOtBmitteei on terri torio?, ami since the house is expect(!il to take tho initiative titeps there will ery soon bo souieof the statehooil bills reported from the house committee. Each of tho territories stands upon its individual merits. There will bo no such thing as an omnibus as there was when tho Dakotas and Montana and Washington came into the union. New Mexico will probably be reported first by the house committee, then Arizona and probably tho Utah home rule bill will come next. Il is doubtful if a favorable report will be made upon the bill Rhin Statehood State-hood to Oklahoma, The democrats on the committee take the position, that the population of Oklahoma is too new to enable anyone to determine deter-mine whether it is permanent, and that it would not be proper to take that country Into statehood within two years after it was settled by white citizens and made a terrttory. Oklahoma is a republican territory that tolls the se oret of the opposition to Oklahoma in the house committee'. It is tho opinion of those best informed in-formed on the subject, that the house will pass bills giving statehood to New Mexico and Arizona, aud possibly a provisional government for Utah. The senate may pass the New Mexico bill, but there they will slop. |
