Show In a magazine article for February Caruolx 1). Wbioht, United States comniissioner of labor, in the course of an article on the growth of cities in the United States, shows that by the census of 1800 the population of cities constitutes consti-tutes almost 80 por cent of the total population of the country. In a total of nearly 65,000,000 more than 18,000,000 are inhabitants of cities. And the growth of Urban is much more rapid than that of rural population. It is safe to say that iu three decades from now one half of I he population of the United States will be in cities. This is hardly to be regarded as a desirable condition, There is loo much unoccupied unoccu-pied farm land in the country. |
