S. of A., district of Utah, has succeeded in securing for the Ogden, Park City and Provo public, schools each a magnificent United States flag from the publishers of the Ywiths' ComauUt, Boston, Mass. These flags arc precisely like those presented pre-sented to tue schools of Salt Lake City, and are beauties, 7x15 feet in size. Mr. Terpcniug has been instructed by the donors to have the Hags presented by the P. O. S. of A. camps of these several cities. This makes twenty-six flags which Mr. Terpcniug has secured for the public schools of Utah as gifts. The Touth'$ ( 'oinpanUn has a plan of sending to the teachers of the schoole of the eouutry printed certificates which Btato that "the bearer is entitled to ono share in the school flag fund." These certificates are sold to the scholars for 10c to 15c a-piecc, according to how expensive a Hag the school desires and the number of scholars there are iu the ichoola. The money thus raised is sent to the Youth' ( 'othtHini ' i, and they send the schoo a flag at Igrcatly reduced prices made of American bunting, tho material of which is made at General Ben Better's factory, the only manufactory of this material in the United States. A lot of these certificates were sent to Mr. Terpening, with a request that he hae them sold in tho public achools here, but he decided that he would go their plan "one better," and made propositions and counter-propositions until he was finatlv notified that the Hags were on the way for tin' pubHe schools of the city as "Christmas gift." The public remembers how these Hags were presented to tbe school board iu the Tabernacle on Christinas last, and by the hoard to the severol schools cn Washington's birthday, the 22d of last month. Had the schools of Utah purchased these flags they would have cost them the snug sum of 1314.50, besides the freight. As it is they have cost the P. O. S.of A. only $10 and that for express charges. |
