The city council met in regular session with Mayor Baskin in tin chair. A large number of petitions and eommu nications were read and disposed of. Edward P. and Krdine L Scoville pre- j scnted a claim for damages in the sumjof S.Mhiii for injuries sustoiiiecl by the latter and her child in falling to the sidewalk. The S. L. Pneumatic Power and Cold Storage Co. asked for a franchise through the streets and alleys of the city. The object ob-ject of the company Is to furnish hot and cold air to the inhabitants of the city the same to be carried on for twenty-live years. The city engineer recommended that bids for a crematory, (be estimated cost of which is $11, 000, be called for. The crematory is to he used for the disposition of garbage, etc. The paving of Kichards avenue was referred re-ferred to the city attorney to look into the law questions as they ari6e upon a now territorial ter-ritorial enactment. The engineer submitted estimates of the cost of pavements for Canon road from State to Third. The bill of City Sexton Dunne in the sum of jslS for recording deaths during his term of office was referred. The street committee submitted a volum inous report. The committee on waterworks reported favorably on the petitions of P. C. Clark and others arfd W. J. Newman and others for an extension of fvatcr mains and recommended recom-mended that the petition of Coates ,V Corum ! asking the opening of ditches be referred 0 the committee on irrigation. The Committee on sewers reported on the petition of Hen Whiltcmore for the establishment estab-lishment of a sewer district in the Section of the city in which the Union Pacific and Railroad hotels are situated, and recommended recom-mended that the extension be made oa (he payment of cost of construction by the pe- I is hereby authorized to immediately employ J some competent person to collate, classify, revise, compile and index ail legislative enactments en-actments pertaining to Salt Lake City including in-cluding those passed at the recent session session of the Utah legislature, and also all the ordinances of Sait Lake City now in force, including all ordinances passed since February 14, 1, with a view to having the same printed. A report of the committee on irrigation, which had been laid on the table for one week at a previous meeting, on the petition j of H, Cochran and others, reported that, tliey had found on Investigation that the radium done by the Rio Grande Western rai.way ou Seventh West street, between Second South and Fourth South, has tilled up the canal and left the street without dilches to drain off the surfase water, and that the water SOUtfc of Fourth South street is stagnant and offensive, and from Second South to North Temple is nearly as bad. They therefore there-fore recommend that the watermaster be instructed in-structed to construct the necessary ditches on Seventh West street, and to clean the canal from Second South to North Temple. Adopted. It was decided on the reports of the committee com-mittee to maintain the surplus canal on a written obligation between the county and city. Au electric light was ordered at the intersection inter-section of Fifth West and North fcmple streets. The old silk factory was ordered rcioved at the expense of the petitioners.
