A great majority of the locations have been wade on one vat mineral belt in which is situated the ISoulder, New World, t'olttmoia, South Fork, Klkhorn and Wood Kiver districts iu the states of Wvoming- and Montana, and not far from lied Lodge. The richness of these mines cannot be fully determined Until tho snow goes off, which will be alont; in July. These placers are bke otoert lu the state it will take time and money to make the proper dovelopment. The owners of the property in the Columbia district have the bent wishes of the people of Kod Lodge, because if this cmp turns out goo I It will be tributary to our town. Thomas W. Fisher end Frank Chatfield are at present prospecting in the Columbia miniug district, and probably prob-ably by the tiino that they corns out we may hear some favorable news from th? camp. The Columbia ruining district was dbk-orered in by F. II. Chstlield and Thomas W. Fisher. The principal quartz location is the Cleveland lode, lying acrojs Cleveland mountain, and the placer claims are situated on the creek below. The ore from the Clove- lund claim ii said to bo very rich and is free milling. This claim was locntod by Thomas V. Fisher. Mrs. F. H Chat-liold Chat-liold and William Langston. It is more Wian probable that the owners will do isnnsiderable doveloptiient work on their lodo this aiimmer wlien the snow is olf. It is to lie hoped that this claim will prove to be, with work, a good mine. On the road to the Stinking Water mines one pasiet on the eilo of a s'ruat coal littld in the vicinity of Cedar moudtaiu. We have nut examined into the quality of coal or the widih of veins or probable extent of the lield, but will make personal investigations investiga-tions prior to the next appearauce of this paper. |
