Show - !i j . THE SALT LAKE TIMES: MONDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1891. " IN MINERAL VAULTS. A WONDERFUL TIM MINE OPENED SOMEWHERE IN UTAH. Particulars of Its Location are tacking A Kich Carbobate Vein Discovered iu American Canon Park City Crosscuts Bullion. Tintic's Sunday Bolitude was broken yes-terday by the arrival of as hungry and thirsty a lot of tenderfeet as ever invaded a mining camp. Some of the excursionists Lad been there before, many a time. Others tad not. To the latter, the big mines, their gigantic hoisting works and the of magnitude their operations, were a great surprise, in that they surpassed all anticipations. The Eureka people received the crowd with the warmest welcomes and the most gracious hospitality. Those who pay frequent visits to this great district, never go there that they are not struck with the advance it is con-stantly making. Some new thaft house has been added to those already on the mountain side, or some improvement has been made to thoe which previously existed. It was unfortunate that the time between the arrival and the departure of the train w as so limited that nous could make more than the most superficial inspection of the underground workings of the mines and the abundance of their mineral wealth; but enough was revealed to bewilder everybody tvho made the hurried journey through the treasure-store- d caves. W hile none of the people who went to - Tintie may ever be ome interested in mining there, excursions like that of yesterday can but result, in great good to tin; camp, as everyone who Hi nt there came av.av fully impressed with the greatness of "its re-sources and will in the future be its potent frit-nil- Tin Ore in Utah. The, iVA'y J,,untain Xrvx syys: The latest Hews iu the mining world is the alleged of vast bodies of tin ore in Utah by Denver parties. Some time ago a company "Was incorporated nt Denver umler Ihe title cf The Colorado and I'tiili Mining and nt company. It was capitalized at :,(HM1,(KMI, w ith A. .1. Wilson as the president ndK. A. AVillouehhy secretary. They claim tliey have upon tlieir Topertj-- in Utah hundreds of thousands of tons of ore in ' lit that runs from in to 35 per cent iu tin, with natural facilities for vorkins the same economically. The scarcity of tin mines is eii'li that st discovery of this kind, if genuine, , means millions of dollars in the pockets of the company. The only question that has Hot yet been altogether satisfactory settled is whether or not the ore really contains tin. One of the best assayers in the. state was to make an assay of a sample of the ore, and he failed to rind the slightest trace of tin. Moreover, he oiT'Tcd a substantial amount to anyone, w ho could find it in a ilirre of ore in which he could find none. On hand George. Arehbald, the com-pany's chemist, is positive on the, point and statement, signed by IX F. Kandal) ami C. J. H'mton was shown a JWivs reporter yester-day statinir they witnessed on the previous day mineral tests of the ore by Mr. Arehbald, who was formerly chemist to the rvern-lnen- t at Washington, and they are. prepared to tale oalli if necessary thai they knew the nature of the material used for Muxes and that nothing containing tin in any form was used to produce the results they w itnessed except the tin ore arid their was uo possible thauee f'tr fraud or deception. According to their statement at the request of Mr. Archibald, they selected an average piece of ore from fifty pounds which Mr. Archibald slated was recently taken by him-self from the property owned by the com-pany. This ore was pulverized, prepared for. the. cruciWe and smelted in thejr pres-I'tic- and a button of tin, weighing at least one-hal- f nn ounce was the result from two ounces of the crushed material from brown ore. Another test was also made of gray ore selected as an average sample, which pave a button of at least half an ounce as the result of four ounces of the crushed material. It is only fair to say that one of the signa- tures appended to the statement, is that of the partner to the present president of the company, w hile Mr. Hinton is a gentleman from Georgetown. N.M. P. F. Rand-l- l, the partner of Mr. Williams above referred to, is the superintendent of the Sioux City iiiinc cf Gilpin county. Ou being inter viewed by a reporter of "the Ac, be stated that when he was called upon to witness the tests he had no idea of any publicity being piven to it, but he is positive, that "the ore contained tin. The subject is of considerable, public inter-est, and further assays will probably be made. The member of the company arc somewhn reticent about the a flair for sev-eral obnous reasons, and do not care for the present to give the exact location of the pro. pert i f'ne thing, however, is certain. Tleltliro negotiating for the sale of it, and Mr.l.mlloiighhy savs the deal is virtually liKei-t- h J.nkl w eek and consists of fiO.hnrsc power boilers and a hoist in z engine capable of s Hiking to a depth of HlOO feet. The GleneoL' boys and others holdiue; claims against that property, received their money last week and everything is runniuir smoothly now. The mine looks better than ever. . The new shaft house at the Lucky Bill is IT r in ir up rapidly and will soon lie com-pleted. Sink'msr is goin forward without interruption and the shaft is steadily frrow-i- n in depth. Ilosscatnp fc Glenn are busy making prep-arations for the winter and gettimr matters in shape for a lonir siege of prospecting in the tunnel which they are now driving and in which tlie; have a larire body of low jjrade ore. Some Temarkahly line ore is now-- being taken from the old stopes in the Northland mine, and w ork is beinrr vigorously prose-cuted in the raise by White A-- Macdonald, who are driving it on a contract. Three shifts are being worked. AV. II. Crockett is not working the Fearl .T. C. claim very extensively just at present, notwithstanding its flattering prcsrects. AVe understand that there is some hitch in the agreement between himself and the parties who have been furnishing means. The total shipments of ore and concen-trates from the camp last week were 1420 tons; of this amount, the Ontario contributed 3o4 tons, the Daly '24." tons, the Anchor 347 tons, the Mayflower 027 tons, the Crescent 2b. tons, other small shipments making up the remainder. Ir he case of Ezra Thompson et al vs. David Keith et al, involving the May "Flower and Northern mining properties, has been set for December 7th. This case is of great importance, involving as it does prop-erly to the value of several million dollars. The ore in dispute is a magnificent body, and is large enough and rich enough to make all the contestants rich men. The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Woodside Mining company was held at the office of E. V. Ferry Thursday afternoon, nearly all the stock being represented. The following officer w ere elected for the ensu-ing year: President, K. P. Ferry; t, I). O. McLaughlin: secretary and treasurer, W. V. Kiee. The above officers, with A. B. Richardson and Francis Smith, constitute the board of directors. A large nmonnt of prospecting has been done during the year and the mine is now ina very pro-mising condition. The stockholders of the Union Consentrat-in- g company held a meeting Thursday after-noon at E. P. I"erry's office,," and the follow-ing officers were elected to look-aft- er the in-terests of the company during the ensuing year: President, E. P. Ferry ; t, A. 1!.
