Show THE SEARLES AVILL. A Postponement Which is Thought to Foreshadow a Settlement. i Salem, Mass., Oct. 9. It is announced i this forenoon that further hearings in the Searles will contest have been postponed to October 20th "by agreement of counsel." It is thought this postponement is a preliminary pre-liminary to a movement toward a settlement settle-ment of the entire matter out of court, and the object is thought to be to gain time to consider the negotiations which are said to be pending in the case. I . , AN ISLAND REVOLT. The Town of Amoy In a State of Excitement. Excite-ment. Several Officials Killed. London, Oct. 9. Dispatches dated September Sep-tember 27, received here from the seaport town of Amoy on the island of the same name nearly opposite the center island of Formosa, announce that there has been serious seri-ous rioting forty miles from the town of Amoy. The population of Amoy amounting to about 300,000 people is in a state of great excitement. The riot was caused by official abuses.
