The turf men are promised an after-noon of excellent sport at tho race track tomorrow, at which time a match 'rai'o will taku place betwaen Lady Pomp, b.tti., owned by hheriif Hurt, and Kowdy, b.g., the property of Colo-nel Woolluy, for VH'I a side, trotting bust threo in five. As a preliminary feature it is understood that there will be a running raeo between Utah-bre-animals that are struggling for suprem-acy. The match between Lady l'ouip and Howdy is the result of a spirit of friendly rivalry that first unfettered it-self in a brush on the boulevard be-tween the respective owners, and to de-cide the question of speed it was agreed to ' 'go" under association rules, Some excellent exhibitions of speed are an-ticipated as both animals are in fine fettle and promise to set a pace for the local roadsters. Hutting at even terms has been quite active aud pools are to be sold this evening at the Louvre, at which time the sport will be given an opportunity to back his judgment. iAItCIiRlDISTIilCT Some Rich Discoveries Have Euan Made Tan Miles South of That Good Camp. BIIIQHAM'8 ELEGANT RECORD. New Strikes Made in the Mines on York 11 ill On the Shoelridga Park City Bonanzas. Professor Hirsching made an assay of some ore yesterday which returned 458 ounces in silver to the ton. The ore comes Irom an entirely new section, ten miles south of the camp of Clifton. Scarcely any work has been done in the district yet, but several locations have been mane which show good sized veins carrying rich ore. There is al-most every variety of formation includ-ing slate, quart.ite and porphyry, the veins generally occurring in the lirst named rock. The claim from which this rich assay was taken, belongs to Piiinkert Gibson, who says they have a vein four and ono-1-al- f feet wide, which is traceable on the surface for two and one half miles. Opening the N.Tl.r. W. P. Belding, superintendent of the Sevier, left the city for the mine this morning. Ho will increase the number of the men employed and got out a ship-ment. The mill will probabiy be shipped by the 1st of August. THE Sl'lliJOL t'OM'iiT. The Election ( harartsrizsd by an Animat-ed Buttle But the Vota is Ltsi Than Half tbi E.igiitration. DIMINISHED LIBERAL STEENQTH. They Come From the Arena With a Drop-ping of tor. Than 303 Votes The Besult in Gold Figures. The contest over the election of school trustees was one of the most an-imated that has taken place in Zion and while the vole was nut as largo as that polled one year ago, it signiiies any-thing else but receoding interest in the prosperity of local schools and the wel-fare ot learning. There were two tickets in the field, the partisan and nonpartisan. The latter believed and believes yet, that the interests of postertty could be best subserved by divesting tho mantle of of education of snythiug that smacked of the acrimonious stripes of the politi-cal arena, tho former determined to capture victory at any cost. That this was the policy that actuated the partis-ans was emphasized til'tur nightfall when the count had progressed sullici-entl- y to make a pretty correct refleo-tio- n of the verdict of the ballot box. There was a mighty falling off from the majority with which the liberals carried their point a year ago in fig-ures just ij.57. The Btruggle, however, was active, and the result was that of tho five precincts embraced in this school district, three were gobbled up by the partisans, while the others were redeemed by the who trusted more to tho sound judgment of tho father and brother than to the subtle artilicBS of the political world. The Crescent will then have a perfect drain and the work of sinking the shaft to the 400 level will be pushed to completion and the output of the mine greatly en-hanced. Several members of tho board of di-rectors of tho Himalaya jroup of claims, situated at the head of Iron canon, are expected in the Park in a few days and will make a thorough exuminntion of the property with the view of resuming operations at once.
