'The committee on sites and buildings submitted a report slating that they had enquired iiilo the condition of the schools, and found a number of them crowded almost to siilfocation. Especially Espe-cially was this the condition at the first, Second, Sixth, Ninth, Eleventh, Nineteenth, Twentieth, Twenty first and Hunl'T buildings. The committee tirped that valuable time was going, and felt that buildings could be contracted con-tracted for at from 10 to 20 per cent under spring rates. Tho report wa received, and it was further recommended that tho board receive tenders for sites in the various wards where structure were needed, work on which is to commence as soon as the site it approved, payment to be made in bonds or cash, as the board may direct. A brick addition was ordered to the building in the Seventh ward. It was decided to accept the Chesney proposition, and the committee was authorized to proceed with th erection of the building on the west sidti of the Seventh school district. The board decided to approve plans and invite bids for an eight-room building build-ing in the Second ward, the tame to be paid for in bonds at par. An addition was ordered to the Ninth ward school building. A four-room annex was ordered for the Eleventh ward school. A number of alteratiout were ordered order-ed for tho Nineteenth ward school buildinsr; the committee was authorized author-ized to advertise for two sites in the Third precinct to be paid for in cash or bunds. A building of eight or ttvnlvo rooms was ordered for the Twentieth ward on ground now owned by the board, the same to be paid for in boudt or in cash. It was ordered that two additional rooms be provided for the Twonty-lirst school building. The board tuen adjourned. |
