Show TIIK a.tll UD tY ill l-.TINti. A call has been issued by tlirco members mem-bers of the old territorial republican committed for a iueetiu- of that committee com-mittee at 1 o'clock Saturday at the looms of tliu territorial commission. The call Invites n'l member to be pres- cut its "butuuess of importance is to be : considered." No one has stated what the purpose In view is, but TllK TlMK j taken i! fcr granted that ir. is.to consider j tli. political change that Is now iu progress pro-gress in th'j territory. Tun Times; will not prejudn the motives of Urn men who have made thu call. If they w ill meet the situation in the rirlit spirit aud w ith tho best interests of thu republican party and the w elfare of Utah at heart, j they will be ablo to do good work and will ba supported by loyal republicans everywhere; but if thi y should attempt to use that old committee as au obstruction obstruc-tion rather than as a help tiiey would make a most serious mistake. That committee was named by a convention that vas called for the ie lo purpose of naming delegate to a national convention, conven-tion, and its powers cannot rise above the authority that created it. It cannot can-not undertake to say that there shall be no Utah orgauuition of tho republican parly; it cannot stand in the way of a republican movement rising up from the people. Hut there are some people who bciieve that it should n't lie dormant dor-mant while the party is passing through the formative Ksije. It will be nluin to the members of the coiumiltaj that the time has come when the republican party must bo placed on a film fooling. Previous committees have held more or less frequent meetings meet-ings to consider the interests of republicanism republi-canism iu Utah. This committee, we are iuformud, has not held a meeting since it was appointed; but if it has auy mission to perform at this time when no convention for the elec- tion of national delegates is to be called, it is to consider the Interests of republicanism, it cannot consistently oppose republicanism in the interest of any other party or at the dictation of any men who have private feuliugs to vent or personal ends to serve. If there should bo any doubt in the minds of any members of tho committee commit-tee about methods to bo pursued, they should call In inllnenLial l-eiinblieans and have the matter discussed. The tiuiu has never beeu known in the history of tho republican republi-can party when any kind of a committee appointed under its authority turned a cold shoulder to its interests. The real question ques-tion before this committee will not be whether there is lo bu a party but what it can do to forward tho interests of the party; not whether we aro to have u republican organization, but how many voters wo can get into it. There is a rich field here tor political work, and every republican agency should be enlisted in it. If it should be thought tilaL there is any couilict of authority between this committee aud this committee in charge of tho actual worn trial is ocing none, means oi Harmonizing Har-monizing the two bodies can bp found. Such is tho situation presented to tho committee that will meet on Saturday. It s not called us a liberal but as a republican re-publican committee and all that it cau do is to devis'J means of assisting the republican work that is now in progress. pro-gress. The final, permanent and irrevocable irre-vocable dissolution of the people's party is acknowledged by a vast majority ma-jority of citizens, aud the number holding hold-ing a contrary view of the matter is rapidly dwindling. Jt is known that tho democrats have organized organ-ized permantly anl that the republican organisation is equally firm. This gives the disbanded m"mbers of tho old peoples party political homos which they are only too glad to enter as thev become, satisfied which thev j prefer. The duty of republicans and i of every committee of tepublicans is to ' engage iu thu worii of honestly setting : forth tho claims and principles of re-i re-i publieanism so as to secure the intolli-i intolli-i gent adhesion of as many of the.so peo-j peo-j pie as possible to the tirand Old party, i r - |
