Show iia.xi our the bannkk. It is ptitin that tho time has come when the republicans of Utah must hang their banner on the outer wall and let it be known that they proposB to lie an aggressive force in tho future of this territory. They cannot sleep while thu democracy musters its forces for the battle which must bo joined sooner or lnt-er. There ara thousands thous-ands of men here who feel that the republican re-publican party is the grandest political organization that men ever gave their allegiance to. They are proud of its history; they glory in its present strength of purpose ami coundness of principlo, aud they have abiding faith iu its future. These men hold that it is their duty to give the party a linn footing in this mountain-guarded territory; to set its principles before the young men of Utah and invite them to study and embrace em-brace them; to plunt tho banivr in every outpost and to let it be known that when tho hour shall come for that banner to be carried into tho forefront of political battle there will be a well-organized well-organized army to march behind aud support it. Tho railroads cannot be doubled tip and folded back upon the states through which they have pushed into this region; the proxpuctors who are opening the wealth of the mountains cannot be induced to fold their tents and steal; away, forgetting forever the glittering treasures upon which their eyes have feasted; the bustling, enterprising enter-prising people who have fallen in love with this smiling valley, who have erected homes here and who are pushing push-ing forward tho development of all liuesof industry aud trade cannot be brushed back like flics into the places from whence they enmo. None of! these things can bo dono; neither can the political change which has crept upon us be staved indefinitely in its course. This chaugo is developing. Republicans realize that it is at the door, aud they will meet and embrace it iustead of turn in e; their backs upon it and inviting it to overwhelm them. Tho tirst duty is organization. The first thing to bo done is to set tho house in order, and to hang the banner on the outer wall. The ncit duty will then be easily discharged when it shall present itself for consideration. |
