Simla, May 15 Dispatches received here from Manipur show that Chief Commissioner (Juititoo and the officers who lost their lives were not the vic-tims of a massacre. Evidence given at the trials that have recently taken place of several prominent Mauipuri insurgents captured by the British troops, proves that the chief oommis-tione- r and his colleagues were by the public executioner. LATEST FROM OGDEN. r The Griffin Murder Trial the Subject of Interest t the Junction City A Little Bhza, BUNTSVILLE'S NEW SCHOOL HOUSE Grand Promenade Conoert Next Sunday Others Newa liotes from Ogden and Vioinity. paclal Correspondence ti ThrTimes. 0,;ien. May 1."). The (iritlin murder trial rontinues to bn the most interest-ing feature in the Junction City. tho court room was crowded all day with spectators from Ogden and the surrounding country. Several s for the prosecution were exam-ined and much new evidence was" brought out. The case was continued anil today the crowd tills the court room. - --t- i- At 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon the railway engines gave the alarm of lire. The tire boys were soon out and giting on double quick time to the place. It proved to bu a small frame dwelling house occupied by a colored family. Owing to the obstacles in the way tho boys could not get the new chemical engine to the building in time to save it. Itut all the surrounding bouses were well soaked with water and the lire got under control. The building was used as a dwollitig and storehouse by the ()g den sausage woiks aud quite a stock of spices were lost. Trie colored family had gone lishiug and left a tire burning in the. cook stove from which the build-ing caught. A dug left at home to guard the house itud contents, was burned while standing at his post. business at. the produce exchange was good yesterday, (jrcen vegetables remain tirui and in good demand. Bids for the erection of this commodious building will be opened . by County Superintendent J. S. l'eery tomorrow. When completed the Hnnts-,- . villa school house will be the largest in Weber county outside of Ogden and will be better than some public buildings in the Junction City. Plain City has two line brick churches and two amusement halls but their rchool house is not large enough to Hpyet the demands. This is goon to. be remedied by the erection of a Urge two-stor- trick building. Our little 'fruit village is coining to the front as fast as possible under existing circum-stances. - t- W. W. Funge, the hardware man, pe-titioned the Central Labor union last a night for that body to allow plumbers under his employ to work on the Stay-ne- r building. This building is the one in dispute and the one upon which union laborers have refused to work. Mr. Funge stated that he has always allowed his men what the strikers now demanded. The union passed resolu-tions permitting Mr. Funge to finish his work on the Stayner building. - A rain last night and this morning madn glad the hearts of men, women and children, '.he beasts of the field, the fowls of the air, and the lishes of the rivers. It also caused the grass and trees to take a new lease of life and come out uiore beautiful than ever be-fore. - - Dr. L. M. Green, of patent medicine fame, passed through Ogden yesterday in his special ear the (i. ti. (i. He came from the ( iolden State and went east over the Union 1'sciiie. Carl Sprecklea followed in the fine coach Pickwick. In the list of announcements at the Grand Opera House are the Mendcls-uh- n Concert Uncle Tom's t abin to morrow night and the County Fair Monday and Tuesday nights. ' The streets presented very strange apectators today. Men were seen wear-ing overcoats, others have no coats, umbrellas by the dozens were constant-ly in the way, awnings were put up to keep them "from getting wet. others were down to keep the sidewalks dry. Peoplo were cussing the mud others were blessing the ram and altogether it was a very muddy muddled day all on account of the rain. featerday's Itaie l.dll Games. NATIONAL LEAIil'E.
