A most affecting scene took place today at the queen's bench division of tho high court of justice. jus-tice. Judge Stephen, Juslice. of the queen's bench, whoso health is said to have become seriously impaired, impair-ed, a result of worry and annoyance ho was compelled to endure during and after tiie trial of the celebrated cele-brated Maybrick poisoning caso had been determined, by the advice of his friends to retire from the bench today. to-day. All of Judge Stephens' fellow judges, including Lord 'hief Justice Coleridge, were present. He replied in a broken and feeble voice to the high tribute paid to his integrity, ability and past services by Attorney General Sir Richard l-"verard Webster, all present were most profoundly impressed im-pressed by the sad scene and considerable consider-able emotion was displayed as Justice Stephen iu law tones thanked his colleagues col-leagues for the good feeling shown towards hira, and tears came to his eyes as well as to the eyes of many others as be wished them boodbye. |
