Show LEPROSY IN NEW BRUNSWICK. Th. IMa.ai I. lining- alowly Kradleateit Ity My.t.lliallo Segregation. Ottowa, Out., April 7. The report of Dr. Smith, physician at Fracadie La-zarctte, La-zarctte, shows that tho leprosy with which a few settlements of fishermen iu New Brunswick have been afflicted for the past half century, is being slowly but surely eradicated. Tho policy of segregation which las been pursued systematically for a number of years has resulted iu lessening the cases. At Fracadio, the original center of the disease, tho casos seem to have been almost extirpated and Dr. Smith expresses the belief that eventually even-tually tho malady would disappear from all the communities where it has been a terror to tho people. There are at present in tho Lazaretto eight males and ten females. Four new patients were admitted during tho year, all from Caraquet. Gloucester county, N. H. There were live deaths. |
