Show THK rOKT BLOCK. Mr. James II. 11a-on, as the chief projector of the Deep Creek railroad, submitted a proposition to the city council last evening for the purchase of tho Fort lilock. He offers to pay l.'0. (100 for tho square when 200 miles of the road is built, the condition being that work must bo commenced within ninety days and continuously prosecuted prose-cuted until the 'MO miles shall be completed. com-pleted. Wo do not believe there will be any objection to this arrangement. Whatever What-ever reason Mk. Macon may havo for amending his original proposition, it seems to us to be fair and reasonable enough. Ten acre plots do not amount to much for park purpose at best. Certainly this particular plot is an eyesore now and the prospects are not very fluttering that it will toon be improved. We do not know whether SI.'iO.MH) is a fiir offer for the Fort Mock as real estate now sells. If it is, so much the better; if not, then we may credit tho difference to the demand for the buildinif of tho Ieet Creek road. ! As we understand the tamper of the people of Salt Lake, they are willing to sacrifice something in order to push tho new line into a rich mining region and make it tributary direct and forever to this city, Heal estate men, moreover, assure us that tho bid is up to the present market price. As it stands tho Fort lilock is no good to any one, while tho $150,1)00 offered therefor might be put on interest or used in boatitifying the other city parks. What a lovely spot Liberty park for ono could be made from the proceedsof part of the money. Taking all these considerations into view, and the further fact that we must push our mining interest in order to enhance all our other industries, and push them now, we believe that the city council will uot hesitate in disposing dispos-ing of the property in question as petitioned pe-titioned for. |
