World's fair is to be held in the parks grouped as the South Park system, but separately known as Washington park and Jackson park. The lake front ia to be a o called annex. The greatest difficulty, at any rate tho . one which caused the longest delay, was. that by the original plan the site would really have been divided there would have been two fairs at some distance apart. The holders of the needed ground stood out for along time, but finally gave consent on condition that certain improvements should be made, so that the space ia now ample and the location very convenient. When the last objection was withdrawn President Palmer smilingly remarked to the commissioners: "It Bppears that all are going one way, Bo I may say that applause is in order." On the instant the assembled negotiators and all the spectators broke Into a roar which was long continued. And all the country will applaud, for the South parks tnuke an admirable site. On the lake front there will be two, perhaps three, magnificent magnifi-cent structures, of the kind that show best from the water, but the main part of the exposition will be to the south, the entrance en-trance being in Jackson park. |
