Show The Gieendule Oak. A curious historic interest attaches to the great Greendale oak of Walbeck Abbey. One hundred and seventy-sis years ago the Duke of Portland made a wager that he could drive a coach and four through the hole made in the trunk. He won his bet aud ruined the tree. Measured above the duke's arch it is 35 feet 8 inches in circumference. The arch is 10 feet 3 inches in height, with a width above the middle of 6 feet 8 inches. The height of the top of the branches is 64 feet. St. Louis Poet-D-jipatch. |
