Show COLD IN GREER COUNTY. It Recalls an Incident in the Life of An Indian In-dian tighter. Fakis, Tex., Aug. 5. A recent dispatch dis-patch from Denver, Cole, speaks of gold discoveries in the mountains of Greer county. It recalled to Captain Milton Webb an experience of his in 1B58, when, on a scout after Indians, in command of a ranger force, he penetrated pene-trated to the junction of the North and South Keq rivers, near where the recent re-cent discovery is reported. Here they found the remains of an old fortification or encampment covering cover-ing some three of four acres of ground with the remains of ruined huts, charred char-red palisades and some skeletons, and whrt appeared to be the wreck of a furnace. As stated in the Denver message, the Indians guarded that section closely, and Webb and his party only dared remain re-main a short while, but they also found a second similar but smaller encampment encamp-ment wreck. There were many evidences evi-dences of a fight in the way of skeletons skele-tons arms and diminutive brass cannon. This reminiscence of Webb's seems to corroborate this last report. |
