A cablegram received from England states that Henry M. Stauley, the African Af-rican explorer, his wife and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Tennant, sailed today for America in the Teutonic. Extensive j arrangements have been made in the city by the Stanley club for his reception. recep-tion. He will go direct from the steamer to the Everett house, which will be his headquarters while in the city. A private supper will be tendered ten-dered him on the night of his arrival by the members of the Stanley club at the Union League club house. Among those who will bo present are: Thomas W. Knox. J. B. Howley, John Russell Young, Murat Halstead, Samuel L. Clemens, Edward A. Qulntard, Dr. J. A. Tonner, and II. C. McCormick. Mr. Stanley will be the only guest, and no others except the club members will be present. Stanley's first lecture will be delivered at the Metropolitan opera house November 13, his subject being "The Rescue of Emin," and the proceeds pro-ceeds of the affair will be donated to the Convalescent Home at Summit, N. J, An informal reception will be held at the Metropolitan opera house prior to the lecture. A committee of 800 will receive Stanley. Among those who will occupy seats on the stage are Vice President Morton, C. P. Huntington, General Daniel E. Sickles, ex-President Cleveland, Cornelius Vanderbilt and Amos J. Cummings. |
