Dodgo, general manager of the Denver & Rio Grande Western; Mr. Henry Callbrom, general manager of the Colorado Midland; F. A. Wadleigh, assistant general freight agent of the Denver & Rio Grande; and Geo. W. Cromer, Cro-mer, superintendent of the Rio Grande express company constituted a special pnrty who arrived in the city over the Western last night and pulled out for Ogdcn this morning. The natural inference in-ference is that the constellation is here as a result of the recent pooling of issues between the two broad gauges that that is to be consumated on Wednesday. The linking of the two lines is an event that exercises much influence on the future of the Utah product.' It establishes the gateway gate-way to a country that must eventually levy large drafts on local resources re-sources and gives to the growers of these valloys a market that is one of tho most generous and liberal on the continent. Hitherto the consumor of the. mountain circuit of cities has been compelled to endure the "extras" of a trip to Salida, Denver and Pueblo, a tax that has made living largely in excess of that which might be had through a direct haul from Salt Lake. With the change . these misfortunes misfor-tunes are corrected. Instead of glutting glut-ting the market through the commission commis-sion merchants of Colorado, the grower will now be enabled to furnish his products to the consumer through direct correspondence correspond-ence and delivery. Prominent among these points , that will draw upon Utah's ',' valleys and agricultural agri-cultural area are Leadville, Aspen, Glenwood Springs, Red Cliff and more than a score of towns of less magnitude. Thev are all destitute of agricultural and horticulture resouroes, and now that a through broad gauge avenue ave-nue is practically established will look to" this territory for her supplies. Again, the Leadville smelters must eventually appeal to the lead : ores of Utah for their prosperous operation, not to mention the drafts on beef and mutton. mut-ton. There is scarcely a basis in fact on which to approximate tho value of the now country coun-try that is opened up by this alliance to Utah and the formal connection which will take place on Wednesday may well be the occasion for local congratulation. Two Beautiful Fioturei. J. D. Kenworthy, general agent of the Santa Fe in this eity, is sending out some fine advertising pictures. They are without a doubt beauties. Two of thom are particularly worthy of notice. The ouo calling attention to the direct line to the city of Mexico, is a beautifully colored lithograph of a gaudily attired Mexican, smoking a cigarette and apparently oblivious to everything except his own enjoyment. The other is a spirited etching of a cow boy in persuit of a wild Texan steer and tells of the direct route to the Panhandle Panhan-dle country of Texas. Railroad Notes. General Manager Bennett of the Rio Grande Western, will return from Chicago Chi-cago today. . William McLauehlin, William Stofie and O. D. Wolfe, railroad contractors, have gone to Portland. " Articles for the corporation of the Utah & Idaho railroad will be filed with Secretary Sells in a day or two. General Manager Ressigue of tho Union Un-ion Pacitio returned last night from an inspection of the Cache valley line and left this morning for Omaha. - A number of lino views of tho Shoshone Sho-shone falls, the wonders of America, are on exhibition at the chamber of commerce. Tho Utah & Idaho railroad rail-road will open the country in which these natural attractions are located. E. M. Le Prohou, a well-known railroad rail-road civil engineer, has purchased a residence on Third South street and will make this city his home. He will have an office with W. H. Cromer & Co.. Main and Third South streets. General Manager G. W. Kramer of the Denver & Rio Grande express company com-pany has formed an agreement with Wells. Fargo & Company to carry all their estern business. The Denver & Rio Grande will do business with the Adams and American express companies compan-ies and will occupy the new office by November 1st. . |
