Show It seems that the recent legislation in favor of the soldier is bearing good fruit. Reports received at the war department de-partment with reference to desertions from the army show that the monthly decrease in the number of desertions continues. In 1888 the desertions for the month of November were 180; for the same month iu 1889 they were 104; decrease of 13 per cent. For the month of November, 18!H), they were B0, a reduction of 30 per cent from the same month of the previous year, or a reduction of 44 per cent from the month pf November, 188S. When the beneficial benefi-cial effects of the new laws governing faithful service are fully appreciated we are convinced the evil will practically practi-cally disappear. |
