Show THE SILCOTT SHORTAGE. Members or the House Will Receive Their November Salaries. Washington, April 10 The members mem-bers of the, house are happy over the fact that the department of justice would not take an appeal from the decision de-cision of the court of claims, placing the responsibility upon the government for the loss of the members' salaries through the defalcation of Silcotl. The papers iu the case were submitted to Secretary Windoni on Friday for an opinion as lo the advisability of taking an appeal. Mr. Paysou saw the secretary secre-tary this morning ami was told by him that the department was willing to let the decision of the court stand uncontested. uncon-tested. Mr. Paysou brought this good news lo his lellow-niembers and there was general rejoicing. Irtimedialely after the naval committee commit-tee got through w ith Us bill, Mr. Adams called up the bill to appropriate money to pay the November salaries,, w hich had been defeated in the house and upon which was pendiiig an action to reconsider. Mr. Paysou then announced to the whole, house what he had already al-ready told his colleagues! The vole was then taken ou the reconsideration, hardly more than a half dozen voices being raised against, w hile the whole yeas were a volume. Tho vote was then taken on the bill, resulting 100 In the affirmative and 13 in the negative. The bill was then passed, and the members w ill get their pay when the senate passes ou the matter. |
