K. colored church, last night refused to marry Charles Thomas and Lizzie Walter. Wal-ter. The church was crowded. Tho bride, a g.iod-looking mulatto girl, and her two uride-maids. were attired .n white silk, and everything was in readiness readi-ness for one of the most fashionable uuptials colored society hero has ever witnessed. When the couple appeared at the altar, the pastor calmly stated that he could not perform the ceremony, cere-mony, declining to make public the reasons. Tho effect of his words was startling. The bride fell to the floor in a swoon, and the disappointed groom-elect groom-elect dropped in a spasm. He was car ried from the church by the ushers. The pastor then explained that ho had refused to marry the couple because a woman named Emily Brotcn bad informed in-formed him that she had been the wife of Thomas for ten years. Today it was discovered that this woman had made a mistake, the young man who was so sorely disappointed last night never having been married. The latter will sue Family Broten for damages. The preacher says ho is very sorry about the matter aud will marry the couple next Sunday, lie appreciated their situation, he said, because ho had a similar experieneo in his youth.
