While I did ;',S make an examination of all I would be willing to rlVmv reputation that any geologist won ft substantia to my views. These claims may not all of theia be on the Daly aud S,V0"1S' but I think thev are same system. At any rate they are lissures. , . ' THIS OJiTAKIO AKD DALV. It has w often been said that the On- tario and Daly were contact veins that tt affords me pleasure to disabuse the minds of those who are interested enough in such prosy subjects as to read ot them at all by saying most positively that it is a fissure 'cut-ting the formation at an accute angle, and both -- walls of which are quartzite. Seldom, too, is a vein seen winch is better defined, the walls in places showing a perfect selvage and shckenside. The reason that people are some times contused and deceived into calling this vein a coutact having one wall of porphyry, is because there are mtcusive masses of that rock which m places becomes the local hanging wall, but u does not essentially alter the fact, that both walls are still qnartzito. What has been said of tho Ontano will hold true of the Daly, Anchor and some others. In the second class are the contact veins having a hanging wall of carbon-ate of lime and a foot-wa- of quartzite. I should place the Woodside, Mayflower No. 7, the Contact, Apex, Alliance, Crescent and several others not so well known. HAVE THE SAME GENERAL COURSE. While I am not prepared to say that all of these mines mentioned are on the same contact, for I feel certain they are not, they have the same general course, running parallel to the quartzite in which the lissures are found. These contacts have a general east and west course aud dipping to the north-west On beyond Pioneer ridge on what is known I think as the Contact group of claims, there are no fewer than live well defined contact veins of from two to ten feet thick, with perfect hanging walls of carbonate of lime and foot walls of quartzite, with a dip of from 25 to 45 degrees from the horizon-tal. The Woodside and May Flower are on the same contact, the first named of which, I examined and found it ono of the best defined veins I ever saw, the walls being nearly perfect and without a break, and dipping for the first 209 feet at an angle of about fifteen degrees from the horizontal. At this point in the incline it takes an abrupt tilt and goes down nearly perpendicu-lar. However, I do not consider this yet as being anything more than local, believing it will assume its normal in-cline again. The only reason these mines have been mentioned particularly is because they are representative, and their names well known to the public who are interested iu mining matters. Iu my next letter I will speak more particularly of some of the mines, their past, preseut, and future. Pat Casey, (Shift Boss.) ' ''" ' i - Park City & 'be district of pheuome-,-- 1 niiiieral.produetioB, big and regit-l,- r dividends, much water, deep, shafts nd long dl'aiu ' tunnels, of gigantic lumps aud machinery Since 1873, ;flien the first mines were discovered Parley's Park, it has never failed ou ifce 81st day of December, wheu the wrlv calculations have been made, to njkc a favorable and remunerative wing for the year's labor. Xoarly year since its discovery, there 'has been a steady increase of profits over the preceding one, and in every cltanoe has. there been ... an !BCrcaii of mineral reserves. Inrtnie of these- - mines, notably the Ontario and Daly, the monthly divl-,lnd- s arc as regular as the circlings of lie sun, until Owning any of tho stock u equivalent to owning just so maiiy i.nveinnieut bonds, the only difference Seiug that their stock is' not so v iu its payment of- interest.- - ' ; In u,y letter to The Times of last trek I spoko of Park City and some of ijinilk, which daily crush, amalgam-ate, concentrate and lixivate the ores roDi the bonanzas on the hills by which the town is surrounded. " ln speaking nf the mines of Park, as bonau-i- t is neither necessary to particularize or to submit any data in "roof of the statement, for the daily timniclings of the shipment of either Pre or bullion from the principle is a matter of publio cognisa-nce. ' PKOH'EIUTY OF THE CAXU Everything about tho town, the mines sell the people themselves bear convinci-ng evidences of the prosperity of the timp. There is no dirt, no squalor or lapeciiniosity anywhere, there is no powing ignorance, but everything den-otes that tho town and its peoplo are vide awake, prosperous unci progressiv-e. Its residences are modern and icautitied by lawns and flowers,' to uch an extent that it is indicatory of he wealth the district Is producing and the intentions of its people to make their homes whero their business inter-tit- s ate situated. This is eminently proper, for the town is a desirable place to live. It is cool, calm and pleasant. In this there is a noticeable difference from other mining camps I have been Id, where the people are bitterly strivi-ng for competencies in the earnest hope that they will not be compelled to live there always,, and rebelling ?wiy moinont oi the timo the decrees of fate which makes it necess-ary for them to live there at all. WEALTH TO PROVIDE COMFORTS. The conservatism of this estimate is prefatcd not alone on tho amount of wnage of the principle mines, which is We easy to compute, but ou the fact ait the present appreciation has alr-eady made it possible to work profit-"M- y many mines which have not been m to work remuneratively for soveral fare, but to make the working of cer-'u- ii classes of ore profitable which ' onlv have been extracted at ' ss less than a year ago. The bride fell to the floor in a swoon, and the disappointed groom-elec- t dropped in a spasm. He was car ried from the church by the ushers. The pastor then explained that ho had refused to marry the couple because a woman named Emily Brotcn bad in-formed him that she had been the wife of Thomas for ten years.
