hundreds remained outside S during tho the services the venerable father ather of 0 sunday schools in utah was highly honored and held in t the he greatest esteem not only by the grown up and present sunday school scholars of 0 but by tho the whole community and the great attendance was a tribute to the worth morth of the deceased at the foot of the speakers stand was placed the white casket and previous to joining the latter day saints in december 1842 lie he was it a do dc out presbyterian it was while ho he still was a young man that he began his labors as a sunday school teacher alch work he continued atter after joining the mormon church when opportunity offered leaving his native country with his mother two ewo sisters and a a brother ho he came to america in 1813 1843 and settled near nauvoo during the troubles in that place with a number of 0 others he was in tho the hands ot of the mob for or over two wee weeks suffering greatly from rom ex exposure and hardships in ot of its his death i lie he was married to merlah dark clark in 1317 1811 and on may esth the thea following year emigrated to utah in president youngs company upon arriving in thu tho valley he reasons of a religious nature induced deuced him to quit business anil and go to farming lie was wad fourteen years a member of tho the county court and several times an alderman in ogden city with in unimpeachable record tor for honesty anil and conscientious nark in isio lie he was chosen superintendent of sabbath schools tor for weber which position lie ha held at his death he was before tills this interested in the schools and was tile the foil founder n der of tho the sunday school ides idea lu in weber as ho he had been in salt sail lake r arom rom him and front from its ills labor the welfare of the se schools bools up to his last moments ills ilia work kept him young in spirit ond and his life was cn twined with those of 0 the hosts ot of sun day school children whom ho he dearly loved lie ho was firm but full of sympathy and aHe afre cllon ellon of a strong mind but pliable in favor avor of meting justice ard and mercy to the oppressed ile he w was a s onu of tho the strong
