Show Between Sincere Religionists and True Scientists There Is No Conflict Ky Ry GEORGE R THROOP Washington University There is a great deal of talk and discussion at the present timo time on the tho conflict of education as represented primarily by pure science and re- re religion re religion ligion ligion as understood in the minds of many but this is a most unfortunate unfortunate unfortunate nate and unnecessary condition To most of the true scientists and sincere religionists of the present day there is no real conflict All the facts of nature and life and the universe are too unfathomable for us to attribute them to any merely blindly operating force How low this entire world of ours andall and all the uni- uni universe uni universe verse could function without some power and guide greater than human comprehension and understanding is beyond the real scientists to fathom What we need most is charity and tolerance on all sides Religious education is to address itself not only to the correction of our present ills but it renders special service as a great prophylactic agent in hu- hu human human hu human man society We have been working on the theory that somewhere back in the early history of the races the train of civilization ran oft off the track and that the business of religion has been to send out a wreck wreck- wrecking wrecking wrecking ing crew to extricate bruised humanity from tho the wreckage The church has served served served-as a kind of spiritual hospital for or wounded men But the big job of the church through religious education is to ta teach men how to run the train so 50 that there will be no wreck Re Re- Religion Religion Religion ligion is not only a cure but it is also a preventive |
