Show THE MINES OF STATELINE W A scott staff correspondent of the mining alining and scientific press of san francisco writes his paper the following description of stateline Stat eline and its principal mines crossier Crossi crossing nr the range from deer lodge lincoln county nevada into iron county utah the town of stateline Stat eline is soon reached it is favorably located on a level site near the foot of the mountains along a ravine where wells wella of water are obtained the road from dear lodge ladue to stateline Stat eline follows along the old pioche stage line which was so well traveled from TO to 80 near the utah nevada boondry line one and a a half miles west of stateline Stat eline government go v erime nt peak rises to an elevation of about feet on the summit of which a government signal station was maintained in earlier days the hills on the east side of the boondry range are higher arid and the formation more broken than is the case on the deer lodge locae side but the growth of scrubby timber is about the same barbe They The veins eins or ledges here trend northerly and southerly as a general thing e though 7 there are are one or two well explored ledges that cut the general formation at right angles in the north and south veles veins the gold predominates but in those trending east and west the most important values are silver the country rock of the district consists of porphyry and birdseye birds eye the ledges are usually of good width though 11 both walls are not always readily found the gangue 7 rock comprises a hard tough quartz with streaks of spar ld and in all of which are gold and silver the gold in various mines appears to be largely in the free state though in others it is found in sul phu the silver exists in chlorides horn silver sulphur ets and some in the form of ruby or silver the johnny mine which perhaps has attracted more interest than any other property in stateline Stat eline district belongs to th the johnny G M M co of which W J dooly 0 0 newell F al wilson J J brown and mrs E newell are principal stockholders the I 1 6 group comprises several claims on the eastern slope of the hill the development on which consists of a shaft feet deep with considerable drifting in fire in opposite directions at the ISO O foot and foot levels A short time acro ago a shipment of twenty ly six tons of ore was made to a salt lake smelter that brought also seventy five tons from the same same shaft were milled at the companas comp anys tremain stamp mill from which a saving of 1117 was made and the tailings according to tests made average 12 per ton in ih the ore house are ten tons of sorted ore that will average over to the ton and it is estimated they have tons of marketable ore on the dump the principal values here are gold which at present depth is quite free silver values being in chlorides and native silver there are however some silver and gold in sulphur ets and manganese the ledge of the johnny trends e eat east s and west but the walls are not reached by present work the ophir is located a mile northwest of the johnny and at about feet higher elevation it was located in 1896 and the ores taken out have pra practically paid for all development and improvements an incline shaft sinks feet following the dip of th the vein vein drifts have been run in both directions on the vein at the 45 and foot stations the vein runs nearly east and west ivest and ha a width of from 6 to 10 feet the material from wall to wall being well mineralized the values comprising silver and gold are carried in white and dark quartz and spar and a little lihle manganese the silver values are said to run from gozs to gozs the gold running from 2 to 60 to the ton the silver is in chlorides and sulphur ets the latter form including some gold there is very little free gold in the ophir these ores all contain a high percentage percenta gb of silica from 85 per cent to 90 per cent the ophir group comprises six claims which were located cocat d by M sullivan who located developed and sold the harqua halqua hala group in arizona the ophir now belongs to lynch lathrop effinger A shipment of forty tons of ore was made which averaged per ton the creole is developed by a foot tunnel a 40 foot feet of drifting drift inY all on the vein the ore is a gold bearing quartz carrying approximately 14 gold 3 silver and 90 per cent silica with some manganese this belongs to J J knight mcburney mcdonald the utah U tah spur belonging to J J knight has been exploited some showing good silver values in a vein structure ture similar to that of the ophir I 1 the aggie D is under bond to john erickson and george rice who have a foot shaft and fe feet et of drift drifting ina on a vein which is said to be 30 feet wide in which h ores assayed over 18 per ton lampies samples from the june bug group of five claims ran from to gold and from 44 gozs to 87 gozs silver the blackbird near the creole has a 48 foot shaft the drillings 11 from the work assaying 30 gold and 5 gozs silver the silver dick near the ophir is also said to make a showing show ing of about 83 gozs silver and 16 gold J C muldoon is largely interested in the above various claims A G bast and associates of salt lake City have a large number of locations in the district on which considerable work has been done with results that average up with the typical prospects of the camp there are many locations here on which good indications exist those mentioned more or less definitely are believed to be a fair illustration of the characteristics of the district another shipment of high grade copper ore from the savani mine not far from st george over the line in 1 arizona arizonan Ariz was marketed last last week col H L pickett who is heavily interested in this prospective bonanza is now making an inspection of the property while hon M M miller his partner is holding things down at this thia end of the line |
