Show THE international CONGRESS I 1 the third annual meeting of the international mining congress will be held in milwaukee wis this year the dates s set et for the session being june 19 to 23 inclusive 1 the last meeting which was held in this c city i ty something more than a year ago was largely attended and was an unqualified success the congress resulted in much good and the forthcoming session in milwaukee promises to be a hummer in every respect and steps are already being taken to secure a large representation a a large delegation at this session one of the steps being taken in this direction being the appeal just made by the executive committee to governors ot of states and business bodies to name delegates governor wells has been asked to name the utah delegation and his appointments will doubtless be made known at an early date and it will be well for utah to have a good representation at the meeting I 1 in speaking of the objects of the congress and the good it is expected to accomplish the executive committee says A new commerce a now new policy a new destiny and a new purpose for being and living livina confronts of people and the greatest factor in promoting the wealth and the power of this country is the industry that is the power of this country it is the mining industry that is the power that will most mast easily naturally and permanently build up our foreign trade restore prosperity P z rop erity among the people and lay a firm fi fin ancia dancia foundation for the present and future genera eions it is therefore urged that all earnest scientists metallurgists and practical mining and mill milf men manufacturers of mining machinery and all others interested in advancing the welfare of this nation attend and participate in the deliberations of this coming session of the international mining congress and by their presence instruction and advice make the proceedings of this assembly lyso so interesting and so educational in its character as to command favorable consideration throughout the civilized world it is not the object of this congress to confine its considerations alone to that of mining for gold and silver and their byproducts by products but that of iron coal marble stone the various fire clays asphaltum and all kindred interests of the mineral and metallic classes to secure better recognition of the mining industry in the national government and to bring about needed changes in the federal mining laws |
