company is located in the bullion lion mining district lander county da the locations are in the near vicinity I 1 of tenabo a mining town about miles southwest from beowawe and twenty eight miles southeast from battle mountain both on the main lines of the southern pacific and western pacific rail roads the mines are reached by ex excellent cellen wagon roads and are easily accessible at all times of the year A daily stage runs between beowawe and tenabo and two automobiles are in constant operation between the two towns active de developments in this part of the district have only been carried on since 1905 but in that time some won darful showings have been made the old id bullion district however has been mined north and west are numbers of valuable properties that are making enviable records these properties are for the most part silver producers while in the tenabo region gold silver and copper are found in goodly quantities the locations comprising the property of the reliance company embrace seventeen water runs through this group where the company owns a townsite and a considerable assessment work has been done on these claims and a tunnel feet in n length has been driven on a strong talc vein disclosing good values and opening op ening up u P some very promising ground at present however the company is developing its little gem property to the greatest extent M I 1 1 7 7 IMN 4 7 I 1 4 V NN 4 I 1 se 7 R am T A successfully for a great many years and has s been productive ot of its millions to the south in the same county is austin one of the oldest camps 4 ia nevada and whose production is estimated at one hundred and fifty millions within a few miles is the old cortez mine which ch has produced over nineteen millions antl ald is still being worked very profitably in mill n creek canyon and in the country to the little gem mine aline of the reliance company claims aggregating acres one group known as the little gem mine includes one claim and two fractions the little gem the edith and the dewey the patent for the little gem mine has been applied for lies to the north of the the larger group little gem and includes sixteen full claims containing acres A beautiful stream of operation and development the development of the little gem has been carried on with energy and system and with the idea of making a mine the desire to take taka out large quantities of ore and thus make a big showing has not tempted the management to neglect the proper development for th the e future welfare of the property in fact this has not been necessary from the very surface the workings h have ave been in oi ore e which throughout has maintained its high value and is i increasing in extent as the work progresses this splendid condition of the property has put the mine on a paying I 1 basis and has paid for exten extensive siva work and improvements the main development has been donl dom through an incline shaft near the center of the property here a strong vein outcrops on the surface exposing a fine body of oxides running high in copper gold and silver work at other points has proven the continuity and strength of this vein and the extensive development in the shaft has shown it to be even better at depth than size on the west a distance of feet along the vein has been attained all in a good grade of ore the vein here is from three to four feet in width with over a foot of the high grade shipping rock while the hoist and bonts at the little gem mine the surface showings warrant the shaft has been sunk at a dip of about thirty degrees to a depth of feet on the vein and has been in ore the entire distance while the drifts and on either side have not determined the extent of the or bodies the vein has an easterly and westerly strike dipping to the south at an angle of about forty degrees on the west side of the shaft has been done quite extensively with a view of connecting with the surface while the developments on the east side have disclosed a uniform improvement with the increased depth it is encouraging to note that heavy sulphides sulp hides make their appearance at an inclined depth of feet which fact speaks well for the future of the mine at a depth of feet in the shaft a break occurs in the vein running nearly horizontally back of the incline this second vein has been followed about twelve feet where a four foot breast of high grade oxide ore is exposed this ore is all of a shipping quality and is being sacked ana taken to the surface wherever the oxidized oxidize A product is found in the mine it is invariably of shipping grade at the foot mark has been done to a considerable extent to the west and large quantities of high grade rock taken out this will eventually be carried to the surface for air connections on gaining the foot level the sulphides sulp hides come in and here the development has been on a larger and more extensive scale at this depth drifts have been run on both sides of the shaft on ehfe east the ore has been followed for fifty feet and the vein is still holding its value and remainder is an excellent shipping ore near the face a has been started from which three car lots of ore have already been taken out from this level another drift had been driven to the west for about the same distance and with the same occurrence of gressing rapidly and the extraction extrac ping rock is breaking tio all A fair idea may be gained of tha this ore body from the fact that alze 0 working two shifts broke down 0 inac forty two sacks of ore and at the an sacked removed all the waste material T could even be excelled in other mine where the work part could be done conveniently in this part of the int in T ore is being sacked faster than hoisted to the surface it can w along the east side of the incline have been run opposite dr ft A all the other side here the workings developments hay not progressed so far but the s shoving equally as big and it is here that there 1 abundant promises for the great future the property at the foot level a drift of has been driven for seventy five feet chov ing a splendid breast of ore at the faan from the foot level another drift ate been run for about the same distance and near the face considerable has been done perhaps one of the best showings in the mine is to be found in this part of the workings here the shipping ore consists of a two foot belt of heavy sulphides sulp hides which is easily segregated from the milling ore below the extensive amount of sloping ground on the east side of the incline marts this part of the mine as the great storehouse of the companas comp anys wealth the face of the incline now at a depth of feet discloses a four foot body of excellent ore and it is here that the efforts of the corn as found above the management has started the of the ground between this drift and the foot level and the work so far has been productive of many tons of fine ore the work here is pro pany are being concentrated character of ore ve in the throughout the workings average at least three feet in wi of wv from a foot to eighteen inches hipping ore the latter is a heavy avy sul stil abide running about 24 in gold old twenty two in silver and seven per cent in copper ounces ces some of the high grade will go much all of the shipments better tha than n t this his but equipment and improvements the mine is equipped with a modern gasoline hoist air compressor and pumping plant these are all housed in a substantial frame fra me building at the mouth of the shaft ta W 7 7 4 aw ar w sacking ore for shipment at little gem will average up to 50 per ton the milling or second class ore is a lime porphyry liberally filled with sulphides sulp hides that will go 20 or more to the ton while the shipping product is more than paying for development it is the vast amount of this excellent milling ore that makes such bright prospects for the property with a railroad in the camp this second grade material could be shipped at considerable profit but it is now going over the dump awaiting the erection of a mill and this appears to be an event that will necessarily be consummated in the very near future in the sump at the bottom of the shaft water has been encountered with very little work this could be developed in sufficient quantity to supply a twenty ton mill from the shipping ore alone the mine could be developed into a big proposition and with a mill on the ground the limit would be hard to estimate at present geological conditions brown porphyry and occur as the country rock with the former pre predominate domin at 1119 S the metals are found in a series of inclined fissure veins striking generally east and west and dipping south the ore bodies ile e in ill the contact of the lime and porphyry and consist of an oxidized product from the surface to a depth of from to feet sulphides Sulp hides come in at this depth and a limited amount of water is encountered within a few hundred feet the ore bodies occur Is swellings in the veins by replacement in the lime the large amount of iron in the ore makes it a very desirable smelter product adjoining the machinery building is a forge and blacksmith shop for the repairing ol of machinery and steel sharpening A commodious bunk house boarding house and office buildings are situated a short distance away at present two shifts are being worked and 0 ile vv ja i N NU four feet of ore in bottom of incline shaft little gem at a depth of feet the company is employing seventeen min mill with extras tor for muckers duckers muc kers ers two engineers sackers etc owing to the lack of transportation mining ining supplies of all por tation facilities m kinds are sorrie sometimes times not easily available and this naturally retards regards develops development e nt work this difficulty however is rapidly being overcome at present ore is being sacked both in the mine and on the sur surface fact and the output Is far in excess of the shipping capacity A traction engine has been put on the road between tenabo and beo dawe and if this proves successful the transportation question will be partially solved the freight depot at beowawe is stacked high with ore that the railroad has been unable to handle regardless of these difficulties the company is shipping eight cars a month the average car will contain about forty five tons after deducting the cost of mining transportation and treatment charges the shipping ore will net about 35 to the ton this output will soon be materially increased the management has made a contract with the traction company for the haulage of ten tons per da and the frel freighters aters will still continue to make their regular trips it is the plan of the company to increase the shipments as much as pos possible sibie as the accumulation of ore at the mine and en route to the smelters shelters sm elters greatly hinders development work the officials and directorate of the corn com pany are unusually strong and with such men behind it there can be no doubt as to the future success of the property the officers are all well known men of salt lake hiram tyree is president H C edwards vice president W S mccornick treasurer and C C wylie secretary the directorate is composed of some of the most prominent mining operators of utah and nevada in eluding judge L 0 ray of kendall of tonopah and goldfield G C H duborg of beowawe and hiram tyree 11 C edwards C C wylie and J C tyree all of salt lake mr J C tyree under whose management the work is progressing at the of wide experience in the mine is a man mining field and is rapidly putting the prop erty in line with the big producers the company is fortunate in lately securing the services of E D cox as foreman at th mine mr cox has been connected with wit several prominent mines in the tintic gintic dis brict of utah for a great many years and knows mining from the ground up the reliance mining and milling corn company is organized under the laws of the state of utah with a capitalization of I 1 shares of a par value of 1 each fully paid up and non assessable the stock stocal is now selling at considerably above par A block of shares has been set aside in the treasury for development work and improvements the majority of the stock is held close and is seldom to be had on the open market the carnegie trust compana compa nv of new york is the transfer agent and the columbia trust company is registrar for the company the main offices of the company are located at atlas block salt lake city utah besides the little gem the following are a few of the shippers of the district the giant the ajax the utah the gray eagle and the phoenix others that have shipping ore and which will soon be in the producing list are the dexter the grand victor the widows the bridal wreath the lovie and the standard there are many other prom ising prospects in the district where active development develop me n t work is being done don e and which will undoubtedly prove the greater extent of the districts mineral zone the towns of lander an tenabo are about equally distant from the reliance companas comp anys properties and are deserving of mention together the towns can boast 0 of f a population of about people and are both thriving little camps tenabo has a post office telephone connection with the railroad a general store a hotel and a number of surveyors and assayers the same might be said of lander with the addition of the district recorder thus the district is provided with the usual conveniences of a mining section and the energetic people there have determined to push both camps to the front the bullion district miner is 19 the name of the new paper that has recently been established to chronicle the events of the district the reliance company is doing the most extensive work in the camp and the recent revival in the district is largely due to t fie success of its efforts more extensive work than ever is planned by the company and the production is to be increased as fast as 1 money nona Y and work will allow the erection of a mill is one of the big projects considered by the management as is also the improvement pro in transportation facilities with the completion of this work the company compact will probably begin extensive operations orations op erat ions upon both gr groups coups of claims |
