Show WAGE SCALE established leader great falls mont the five year sliding scale contracts be yeen een the boston montana company in its is city and every employed of the smelter ere have been signed and both employer I 1 n ad d employed now stand bound to industrial bace for the next five years that is the excellent news which the reader eader conveys to the people of great falls boday day and it is news most cheering I 1 the contracts were signed at 11 t this h is morning by the electrical workers the blacksmiths and the machinists unions the same who walked out monday noon t the three unions voted unanimously to sign the scale which is exactly the original proposition offered by the company f mr john D ryan managing director of the amalgamated left for butte this after a oon loon I 1 the signing by the great falls unions laving completed the signing of every smeller of this city butte and anaconda S the machinists of anaconda signed the agreement last night and with the signing n n this city today by the three unions as lamed the last item of possible opposition 0 o the five year contract has been alimi and the question adjusted finally the mill and Smelt ermens union of this ity has signed the scale already having voted to do so by two to one a couple of beeks ago the action of the blacksmiths machin ats and electrical workers unions this morning came after a conference between managing director jorn D ryan of the amalgamated manager C W goodale of the he boston montana properties and E A wheeler heeler superintendent of the boston montana antana smelter on the one hand and a committee representing the three unions on the other I 1 the conference began yesterday morn ing ng at 10 following the arrival of mr ryan from butte and continued until a i late hour last night this morning a second meeting was held and following it the three unions cast a unanimous vote to accept the original proposition of the company and the contract to be signed forthwith which was done L under the original proposition which has been accepted and signed the 4 men of the unions named receive an increase ot of 25 cents per day instead of the 50 cents asked for by them that being the main point at issue with the new scale which went into effect effect april 1 and which has been signed by all smelter employed emp loyes now all men who have not received a raise of wa wages since november 1 1906 will be paid 25 cents per day more than they have been receiving as long as copper sells at 18 cents per i pound or over but they agree to accept I 1 the former scale of wages if copper falls below 18 cents per pound mr ryan has guaranteed that regardless of the price of copper whether below IS 18 cents per pound or not 3 will continue to be the minimum wage scale and eight hours per day a days work the new scale went into effect april 1 the agreements I 1 were signed 0 by the officers of th the e unions and by mr ryan for the company about men are affected by the new scale and will receive 25 cents per day more from april 1 |
