Show THE LOST PACKER SMELTER statesman boise idaho in a private letter from ouster custer J A czizek gives some very interesting information relative to development of properties in which he is in that county lie he speaks of having paid a visit to the lost packer the smelter was running very smoothly when he was there and in 12 days it had turned out matte to the amount of the matte he says has a value of about a ton carrying from 51 50 to 60 per cent of copper and from 12 to 14 ounces in gold the smelter was constructed last year and started up the start was made late in the fall and a satisfactory run was being made when a break occurred which necessitated sending out for new parts these could not be secured before the closing of the roads and it was necessary to abandon the plau of working throughout the winter the repairs were made this summer aud ami now the plant is in full blast the development of the mine has been in progress for a long time and an immense body of high grade copper gold ore has been opened together with a great body of ore of lower grade the high grade ore nets hauled out raw while the smelting smelling sm elting ore yields the very high grade matte spoken of by mr czizek in his letter A development of the highest importance in the montana mine is reported by mr czizek the long tunnel that was run to strike the great contact has intersected it and when mr czizek wrote it has penetrated the ore body four feet the ore proved of very high grade in gold this strike is made at a depth of more than 2000 feet on the dip of the vein the tunnel having been driven a quarter of a mile to reach the lode the montana mine is on estes mountain it was worked extensively in early days but a systematic plan of development was not undertaken at that time and when the upper ore bodies had been exhausted the mine was closed down some time ago mr czizek got hold of it and enlisting the albl of strong mining men proceeded to run a 2 tunnel to prove up the property at great depth his work was interrupted by a which tore away some of his buildings and operation was suspended for a time time it was resumed this past spring and it has now been demonstrated that the ore goes down to great depth and that the ground is even better at the new level thau than it was above |
