Show AROUND THE STATE I 1 bingham bulletin charles A peet the well known surveyor spent three days this week out in the hills with the transit mr peet now has an office in the atlas block and spends part of his time in salt lake city bingham bulletin the ohio on the level has entered the sulphide stratum and is getting ore that runs as high as 26 per cent copper a big gain in value over the porphyries ries in which the work has hitherto been prosecuted eureka reporter the buildings for the godiva mill are now nearly completed and some of the machinery has been put in place this week the crushers were installed and work on the foundations for the tanks and other equipment commenced all of the machinery will be upon the ground before the end of the present month and barring unforeseen difficulties the plant will be in operation by march richfield reaper reports came down from the richfield mining milling com banys property last week that an unexpected strike of good ore bearing rock had already been encountered in the tunnel which is being driven on the claim recently acquired from peter gottfredson to tap the big lead farther in this new strike is a blind ledge and is believed to be a lateral of the main ore body which runs through the ground richfield reaper H J gottfredson came down from gold mountain tuesday on his way to his home in salina for a few days on business he reports that the but lerbeck ler beck which he has been developing this winter is beginning to give very encouraging indications of bringing to light in another place the fine ore body which once made this a property of some known re the tunnel will be pushed right along and inside of another month is expected a strike of no inconsiderable logan republican the writer visited the utah marble companas comp anys plant at the old card mill mi ll 11 site yesterday afternoon A great derrick is erected saw frame in place and driving gear is now practically finished mel r montrose walker and wright ar abw engaged in laying a short track tor for hand handling ing the heavy marble easily there is a condes sid erable quantity of large marble blocks blockis on the he ground and this will be worked up as readily as possible sawing to begin today if f nothing goes amiss the place looks like there is going going to be some business done in a very short time bingham bulletin L L nunn of the principal owners of the telluride power co x which supplies ss bingham and who visited last week has foreclosed a control of here sass ss ss rs the jordan barrot s plant and the two will probably be consolidated mr nunn has paid W S mccornick for a one third interest and is said to be negotiating for the balance held by A H tarbet the jordan plant consists of land on the jordan river power house and generators sufficient to produce horsepower the plant has not been operated for some months it is worth about park record returns from the initial shipment of the odin in hhaynes canyon show that it will net the company 44 per ton after transportation smelting smelling sm elting and like charges have been deducted the first assay certificate from the shipment denotes ounces silver per cent lead 27 per cent copper 2 in gold and per cent iron per ton the stock of the company made its initial appearance on the stock exchange monday when shares changed hands at 23 cents per share conditions at the property continue very encouraging and the prospects are indeed bright for its owners bingham bulletin the bingham tunnel formerly owned by allen alien G lampson of the jordan narrows electrical enterprise and later by W S mccornick has been relocated by john butters the tunnel lies between lead mine and the dalton lark tunnel and is valuable for the large amount of development work that has been done on it it went to mr mccornick as a part of the jordan narrows electric plant deal which has been in the courts for some years but it is said the work required by law was not done during 1905 in relocating locating re the tunnel mr butters is said to have been acting for mr lampson richfield sun jean lepage was down from gold mountain the first of the week bringing with him a good report of the development work now being prosecuted on the richfield M M companas comp anys ground on deer creek embodying some fourteen claims mr lepage imparted the information that quite recently work was begun on a new tunnel that will tap the contact at a greater depth than has been attempted before probably feet below the original prospecting work barney is in charge of the work under contract mr lepage said that everything is looking favorable for the opening up of a good ore body and the making of another gold mountain bonanza mine eureka reporter superintendent tim mannion of the new utah mine in the erickson district was in eureka the first of the week for the purpose of getting some fixtures for the engine mr marion says that the shaft is now down a distance of feet and that as soon as the foot level is reached drifting will commence he brought in some nice samples of copper ore from thi the ore body encountered while sinking and according to assay made this week the values in copper run up as high as 48 per cent at the high P price ihbe which copper is now bringing it would not be at all surprising if the new utah as well as one or two neighboring properties such as the copper jack commenced shipping ore early in the spring eureka reporter C W jones of salt lake was in eureka last saturday en route to the bonanza property in west tintic gintic where he now has a small force at work mr jones says that he is still trying to induce his company to build a mill in that section and as soon as the litigation in which they are involved is settled the matter will be taken up there is an abundance of low grade ore in several mines of that section but on account of the long haul to the railroad this ore cannot be placed upon the market at a profit A concentrating plant would be the logical solution of the problem and if a custom plant could be erected all of the properties would be bene fitted at present work is being carried on at the old scotia burlington and orient all neighbors of the bonanza cedar city record james canfield was in cedar city this week and reports that work on the bull valley iron mines has been discontinued for the present the annual assessment necessary to hold part of the claims was duly performed and now they will wait for better weather before prosecuting the required labor for patenting the properties mr canfield stated to a record representative that the deposits developed to be larger with every stroke of the pick in places where there were scarcely any indications a cut exposed ledges thirty or forty feet in thickness practically all of the iron is a bessemer product too just as soon as the weather gets fit in the spring a large force of men will be set to work on the properties and bull valley will become a lively camp eureka reporter the increased output from the tintic gintic mines has necessitated the putting on of another switch engine and crew by the rio grande railroad this change was made on monday and since that time the switch engine has been kept at work at the various camps of the district the crew will also make the trip to goshen each day and help haul the incoming freight cars this will lessen the work of the freight crew running between silver city and springville Spring ville and enable that train to run somewhere near schedule time the output of the tintic gintic mines is larger at present than at any time in the history of the district and both the railroads have a busy time of it in transferring the ore to the smelters shelters sm elters the two railroads are now hauling out of tintic gintic between twenty five and thirty carloads of ore daily st george advocate superintendent bowles of the utah and eastern and mr freer were down from shem the latter part of last week and while in town they called at this office and gave gava us an interesting description of the companas comp anys new road engine they were well pleased with its initial trip over the road from acoma to shem they are satisfied that it will exceed their former expectations in efficiency andas and as soon as the road bed is packed and the coaling stations established they will begin to make regular trips the engine is capable of producing an eighty horsepower under pounds pressure A rock 12 to 18 inches high is no obstacle to its progress for it will pass readily over them trees brush etc are smashed into the earth and help make the roadway better the engines are mountain climbers for they can pull their load up a 15 per cent grade with apparently no effort the engine and cars being of the three wheeled type are able to round a bend in the road in making a circle 80 feet across the fifth car will track within six inches of the engine
