Show BOSTON CON ORE BODIES so absolutely astounding have been the developments development s in the boston consolidated bodies at bingham companas comp anys sulphide ore during the past ten days says the daily herald that president samuel newhouse says he is nearly carried away by the reports made to him by mine aline manager louis S gates cates taking the lat tatters batters report concerning what has I 1 happened as a basis from froin which to figure it is shown that during the time mentioned there have been added to the mines known bulk of sulphide ores noless no less than tons allowing ten cubic feet to the ton of ore that is relied U upon pon to average this would mean 9 per cent copper that the new ground proved up holds pounds of copper wh which ich at a pound has avalue a value of that every days work adds to this remarkable show in ing is found in the mine managers statement to the effect that there are no signs of the hanging walls closing down on the ores if any such a showing has ever been made in a copper mine in this country in the same length of time before history has failed to chronicle it this wonderful exhibit a disclosure that in one fell swoop has practically doubled the amount of exposed ore of this class in the boston consolidated mines was brought about in this way some little time back the news crept crep t out that a body of sulphide ore had been opened on the fifty foot level for a distance of approximately feet along the strike of the vein that it had been demonstrated to have a thickness of from thirty to forty feet and that the mass averaged all of 9 per cent copper conditions were reported to mr newhouse and he directed that the work of reaching out for the continuation of this remarkable shoot of ore be commenced on the peabody tunnel level feet below january 3 three cross cuts were started by manager gates cates and six days ago each of them had been driven through or rather into the hanging wall limestone to a connection with the ore bodies which were found identical in character with those opened feet above up to yesterday these cross cuts which are something over feet apart have been sent through the ore for a distance of forty feet and the hanging wall side had not then been reached at either point these cross cuts practically prove up the ore on the peabody level for a distance of over feet and with everything to indicate that the ore body there thera will prove much thicker than it did above gives the calculations made above a standing that is at least reasonable A second strike that is counted as of equal importance to the one described by the management is that which has been made in a raise from the armstrong no I 1 level feet below the peabody level this raise was followed up in a lime quartzite contact and it has developed a tremendous tonnage of fine ore through which it has been driven for every foot of the distance at one point in the raise a drift has been sent out sixty five feet and this also is all in ore with nothing to indicate its limits additional importance is attached to both of the strikes mentioned as they have tended to demonstrate the ore bearing characteristics acte of the limestone belt which had previously been considered as the hanging wall limits of the ledge system instead of being the casing as it were to the ledges it has been demonstrated to be the real matrix of the richer sulphide ores and opens up a field of possibility the magnitude of which viewed in the light of what has taken place is almost beyond human compre comprehension hian |
