Show x TH THE LALA MINE AIN E J X W S MINERAL WEALTH REDDING BEDDING GALA CALA as at X ff since the purchase 6 and equipment of the mammoth mine the general and principal interest centers in and a nd about the balaklava Balak lala mine which of the large mines on the copper belt will no doubt be next in line for equipment the actual transfer of this valuable property was made on the dinst by the balaklava Balak lala consolidated copper mining company a subsidiary company of the western exploration company of salt lake city to the white knob copper com company ltd of mackey idaho this company owns upwards of acres of mining ground in lost river valley custer county idaho which has been developed by more than 30 feet of underground workings and equipped with a ton smelting smelling sm elting plant three ton furnaces although the operations of this company on their idaho property has not been entirely successful their advent into shasta county territory bears great significance the balaklava Balak lala consolidated copper mining company compan Y have had this property in possession and under development for a number of years and as s a result have hake today developed one of the largest unequipped sulphide ore bodies in the entire west the late peter kimberley of chicago was president of the balaklava Balak lala company and C A malm and sigmund well of san francisco were also heavily interested in the developing company willard F snyder of salt lake alft city is the general maii manager affer of the holding company and grant snyder assistant manager has been and is still in charge of development at the mine the holdings of the balaklava Balak lala comp company an y comprised 1500 acres of patented land on the ahe south fork of squab creek which are connected by an eight mile wagon road to kennett the ore bodies of which several have been developed with an aggregate of more than feet of underground workings occur in lenses located at various points over the area of the large holdings more than one dozen tunnels have been driven under the enormous gossan cappinus cap pings to penetrate the ore bodies in place and in very few instances has the efforts of the managers resulted in in disappointments the greatest quantities of ore have been developed in tunnels no 8 and 10 in windy camp hollow tunnel no 8 being in more than boo feet exclusive of the drifts which include an amount equally as much making a total of more than 1800 feet all of which is in ore tunnel no 10 is 1000 feet in length every foot ilot of which has been driven ilki through ore with these two tt tunnels innels this tb particular lens lifts has been demonstrated taa to have davd a length fully 1000 beet and a t wid of frain 50 to feet one half mile west of the windy camp workings considerable development has been done on the alps group a very de part of the companas comp anys holdings in which a large body of ore has been opened up by two tunnels still further west a tunnel driven on the early bird disclosed another large lens carrying from two to ten per lier cent copper and high silver values east of the windy camp hollow workings on mule gulch the scene of the present development the presence of ore was formerly determined by means of a diamond drill which was afterwards intersected by a foot tunnel known as the well weil tunnel or tunnel no 23 A crosscut cross cut in this lens has so far proven a width of feet with no indications of the the diamond drill h has as also proven the continuous strike a distance of 1500 feet the lens has shown a width of 50 feet at a depth of feet fro from in the surface over all with upwards of two miles of tunnels cross cuts drifts and raises between arid tons of ore have been developed and a million tons toni of ore have hav been determined ahead with the diamond drill which only awaits disclosure by means of tunnels and drifts development in the well weil tunnel has been greatly facilitated by the use of machine drills a large electrically driven air compressor having been installed at the mouth of the tunnel early in the summer an option was secured by peter L kimberley for the interests of well and malm of san francisco cisco 0 and immediate smelter construction was at that time seriously considered after mr Kimber leys sudden death in chicago any plans that were maturing in this direction were completely balked As is usually the case with so valuable a property as the balaklava Balak lala it did not long have to go a begging an option wa was s dimmed immediately lately secured by the white knob interests and the final transfer was effected on october as already stated involving perhaps the largest consideration of any mining property ever sold in northern california the work of developing bringing to the front and transferring so large and valuable a property as the balaklava Balak lala reflects much deserving and well earned credit upon its managers As has already been said and proven would not necessarily ne C e S that so valuable a property long go a begging for a purchaser so may it A also be said that it will not long have to goa go a begging for equipment that the balaklava Balak lala will be equipped in the near commensurate rate IN with ith future with a smelter 1 its t s merits is a self evident fact whether it will be it a how pl plant a nt or the white knob equipment remains to be seen |
